4 Person Outdoor Saunas

How big should a 4 person outdoor sauna be?

A 4 person outdoor sauna is a backyard sauna rated for four adults, and many of the models at Topture carry a seat range in their name instead: 2–4 on the SunRay Aurora and Oasis barrels and the Dundalk Luna, 3–4 on the ThermaSol Spectra, Fortis and Vue, and 4–8 on the True North pods. The footprint depends on the form. SunRay lists the Galley 400SH barrel at 72 by 72 inches outside, SaunaLife lists the CL5G cube at 80.7 inches wide and 63 inches deep, and Dundalk LeisureCraft lists the Palmer cabin's exterior at 98.25 by 97.25 inches.

4 person outdoor saunas compared

4 person outdoor saunas by form

Five forms share the 4 person outdoor sauna grid, and for a family of four the choice turns on walls, headroom and heat; how to choose an outdoor sauna compares them in more depth.

• Cube for straight walls: the SaunaLife CL5G pairs them with a full glass front wall, and more cubes are in outdoor cube saunas.
• Barrel if the round shape is worth giving up some headroom at the walls; SunRay, SaunaLife, Dundalk LeisureCraft and True North all build barrels for four, gathered in 4 person barrel saunas.
• Pod if you like a curved room, and the True North Large Pod if you also want more height inside: True North says it has more interior headroom than its traditional barrel. The Dundalk MiniPOD and True North Pod are the other pods for four, with more in sauna pods.
• Cabin for upright walls, from SunRay, Dundalk LeisureCraft and SaunaLife kits to seven ThermaSol models.
• Infrared cabin if you would rather skip the stove and stones; every outdoor infrared model is in outdoor infrared saunas.

How much does a 4 person outdoor sauna cost?

A 4 person outdoor sauna at Topture starts at $4,290 for the SunRay Cayenne infrared cabin. Among traditional saunas, the SunRay Aurora 300SH at $5,290 includes its heater, while the SaunaLife CL5G at $5,990 adds SaunaLife's $950 freight charge and a heater package chosen on its page. ThermaSol's cabins sit higher: the 4–5 person ThermaSol Nordic Dawn is $33,467.

Before comparing 4 person outdoor saunas on price, add the freight where it is charged. On the SunRay, Dundalk LeisureCraft and True North models, freight within the contiguous United States is included in the price; SaunaLife adds its own freight charge to every SaunaLife sauna, and freight for ThermaSol saunas is quoted per order.

What heat and electrical setup does a 4 person outdoor sauna need?

For a family that wants the heater settled with the sauna, SunRay and ThermaSol sell their 4 person outdoor saunas with the heat source included. SunRay's traditional models each come with a Harvia electric heater, and its Cayenne and Pacific are heated by infrared heaters. Each ThermaSol cabin comes with a Harvia heater, electric from 3 to 10.5 kW or, on the Nordic Misty, wood-burning as an alternative; the Solaris and its 3 kW KIP are built to run without a power connection.

At this size, every SaunaLife, Dundalk LeisureCraft and True North model lets the buyer pick a heater package, and the one marked Recommended is a HUUM DROP electric heater of 6 to 9 kW, except on the SaunaLife GL4, where it is a HUUM HIVE Mini 6 kW. A Harvia M3 wood stove kit is also offered on the SaunaLife G2, on all five True North models and on every Dundalk LeisureCraft model here except the Luna, and the Dundalk MiniPOD, Tranquility and Tranquility MP add a HUUM HIVE Wood 13 kW package.

SunRay lists its traditional 4 person models and the Pacific infrared cabin for a dedicated 220–240 V circuit; ask us about the Cayenne's supply before you plan the wiring. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the sauna's manual, the heater's manual where the sauna has a stone heater, and your local code.

Delivery and base for a 4 person outdoor sauna

SunRay, SaunaLife, Dundalk LeisureCraft and True North ship their 4 person outdoor saunas as kits that are assembled on site, by freight to a curbside delivery booked by appointment, and many Dundalk LeisureCraft crates are longer than 92 inches and need a forklift, a tilt tow truck or a crane to unload. ThermaSol delivers its cabins fully assembled on a flatbed trailer, and a forklift or crane places them. With either kind of delivery, raise site-access questions before you order.

A 4 person outdoor sauna needs a firm, level base. SunRay's barrel manual asks for a concrete pad, wood deck or patio pavers and never bare ground, and ThermaSol lists concrete, decking, pavers or compacted gravel with a slight runoff for drainage.

Next step for a 4 person outdoor sauna: the sizes either side or the sauna finder

The sizes either side of a 4 person outdoor sauna suit households that are rarely exactly four:

• Bathing two or three at a time most days: start with 3 person outdoor saunas.
• Often hosting five or more: move up to 5 person outdoor saunas.
• Seat count or form still open: a few answers in Topture's 60-second sauna finder turn into a suggested model for your family.
