What "2 person" means for an infrared sauna

A 2 person infrared sauna is an infrared cabin its maker builds for two people: SunRay and Finnmark sell six of the saunas here as two-person models, and SunRay rates the Sedona for one to two.

In a 2 person infrared sauna, inside width says more about elbow room than the seat count does. Of the seven here, the Sedona is 32 inches wide inside and the other six give 43 to 45 inches, so two adults sitting side by side should compare those six first.

2 person infrared saunas in this collection differ in four ways: the kind of infrared heat, a stone heater or not, red light, and where the sauna may stand.

• Far infrared, from SunRay. SunRay's five saunas here heat with carbon far-infrared heaters. Choose one if you want carbon far-infrared heat at the lower end of this collection's prices.
• Full spectrum, from Finnmark. Finnmark calls the FD-2 full spectrum: mid- and far-infrared Spectrum Plus heaters on the back and front walls and under the bench, plus far-infrared carbon panels on the side walls. Choose it for that mix of infrared bands, or compare full spectrum infrared saunas in other sizes.
• Infrared with a stone heater. The Finnmark FD-4 Trinity pairs mid- and far-infrared Spectrum Plus heaters with a Harvia Vega Compact heater with stones, and for steam Finnmark has you splash water onto that heater's rocks. Choose it if you also want a sauna heater with stones; it is a hybrid, like the models in hybrid saunas.
• Red light. The FD-4 Trinity carries Finnmark's Spectrum Red Light LED panel, which Finnmark specifies at 650 nm, and the FD-2's multi-color LED ceiling light has a red setting; Finnmark gives no wavelength. If red light matters, choose between these two, the only saunas here tagged for red light therapy; other sizes are in red light therapy saunas.
• Backyard or indoor room. The Burlington and the Logan are the two cabins here built to stand outside: SunRay weather-seals them under a metal composite roof, and its manuals have you reseal or repaint the exterior every year. SunRay says its indoor models are not suitable for outdoor use, and Finnmark's manuals let the FD-2 and FD-4 go outdoors only with Finnmark's outdoor cover, beneath an awning or overhang. For an open backyard, choose between the Burlington and the Logan. Outdoor models in other sizes are in outdoor infrared saunas.

Which kind of infrared suits two people is a judgement call that how to choose an infrared sauna walks through; if the heat should come mainly from hot stones, compare 2 person traditional saunas instead.

How much does a 2 person infrared sauna cost?

A 2 person infrared sauna in this collection costs from $2,698 for the SunRay Evansport to $7,795 for the Finnmark FD-4 Trinity.

Electrical setup for a 2 person infrared sauna

A 2 person infrared sauna in this collection needs a power supply that it shares with no other appliance. SunRay lists its indoor saunas and the Burlington for a dedicated 110–120 V outlet and the Logan for a dedicated 220–240 V circuit; Finnmark's manuals ask for a dedicated 120 V circuit for the FD-2 and for the FD-4 Trinity's infrared side.

The FD-4 Trinity's Harvia heater is a separate job: Finnmark lists its 1.9 kW Vega Compact at 120 V and 15.9 A, specifies no circuit for it, and has the installer hand the Harvia manual to a licensed electrician. Before you order, check whether the spot already has a dedicated outlet or circuit of the right voltage. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the sauna's manual, the Harvia heater's manual for a Trinity model, and your local code.

Delivery and assembly of a 2 person infrared sauna

Freight brings a 2 person infrared sauna from this collection to your curb on a booked appointment, with a liftgate on most trucks, and someone 18 or older signs for it on the Bill of Lading. Raise site-access questions before you order.

SunRay packs its saunas as pre-built panels in cardboard boxes on a wooden pallet, says the boxes fit through any door 24 inches or wider, and has two people lock the panels together with a screwdriver, with no contractor. Finnmark's FD saunas also arrive as prefabricated panels on a wooden pallet, but its manuals say professional installation is required, with at least two people. To assemble it yourselves, start with SunRay.

The base comes first for a 2 person infrared sauna. Indoors, SunRay asks for a fairly level, dry floor, with a floor separator if it is damp, and Finnmark for a solid surface in a dry area; outdoors, SunRay names a level deck, concrete pad or pavers for the Burlington, with a waterproof barrier under the sauna floor on pavers or a damp site, and says the Logan must never sit directly on the ground.
