The HIVE Flow is HUUM's newer take on the wood-burning sauna stove, and the design choice that defines it is stone mass. The Flow has a taller body — about 34.8" high — and it carries more stone at a lower kW rating than HUUM's other wood line. The headline number on the Flow 9.8kW looks modest, but it holds 330 lbs of stones. That's the most of any HUUM wood stove, and it's the whole point: more thermal mass means softer, more even heat and löyly that lasts through repeated water pours without the room temperature dropping.
If you've heard that wattage is everything in a sauna heater, the Flow is the counterexample. Raw kW gets a room hot; stone mass is what makes the heat feel good and keeps the steam coming. The Flow is tuned for that second thing — the best löyly-per-kW HUUM offers in a wood stove. Like every wood burner it needs no electrical service, no controller, and no breaker; it runs on fire and a chimney. If you have power on site and would rather skip the fire, the electric HIVE and the wider HUUM electric heater range are the wired alternatives.
The HIVE Flow comes in two sizes, separated by stone mass, log length, and room coverage.
Still choosing the room? The mid-to-large outdoor builds the full Flow is sized for live in our outdoor barrel sauna range.
Match the stove's cu ft range to your sauna and size up when you're between the two — glass doors, tile, and cold exterior walls all raise a room's effective heat demand. The Flow's bigger firebox (16" vs. 12" log) also means fewer reloads on a long session.
Both the Flow and Flow Mini come in two feed styles, and it's a decision you make before the walls go up. The standard version loads from inside the sauna — open the firebox door in the hot room, add a log, close it. The LS version feeds through the wall: the firebox door sits outside the sauna, so you load wood from an adjacent room, a porch, or the changing area without bringing cold air, bark, and ash into the bathing space.
Both sizes offer LS: the HIVE Flow LS 9.8kW and the HIVE Flow Mini LS 8.5kW. The LS models use a mounting collar at the wall pass-through and include a protective bed accessory. LS is the move for outdoor cabins where the loading door faces a covered porch, or any build where you'd rather keep firewood and ash out of the hot room entirely. Decide feed style early — it changes how you frame that wall.
Every HIVE Flow needs a chimney kit. A wood stove vents up a flue, and the flue has to match how it exits your sauna — through the wall, through a flat or angled ceiling, or up through a barrel roof — while maintaining proper clearance to combustibles per local code. This is the part of a wood-stove build where a professional eye matters most. Our sauna installation guide covers planning, but always consult a licensed professional for chimney, venting, and clearance requirements, which vary by jurisdiction.
The cleanest way to buy is bundled: the HUUM wood-burning heater packages pair the Flow or Flow Mini with a chimney kit matched to your roof or wall configuration, so you order the stove and the right flue components in one shot.
The Flow's stone load is its signature — 330 lbs on the full Flow, 231 lbs on the Mini. The fire heats the stones, the stones radiate and hold the heat, and when you ladle water over them the room fills with humid löyly that recovers fast between pours because the mass doesn't lose temperature. Fill the basket fully with rounded olivine; a half-filled Flow gives up the exact thing that makes it a Flow. Source the right volume from our sauna stones collection if your stove doesn't ship with them.
HUUM's other wood line — the HIVE Wood — is worth understanding before you choose. The HIVE Wood is the original wood-burning version of HUUM's iconic cylinder, in 13kW and 17kW, with the classic cage-of-stone look and higher peak output for driving big rooms hard. The HIVE Flow is the newer body: taller, with more stone mass at a lower kW.
The practical difference is heat character. The HIVE Wood pushes more raw output and wears the classic HIVE shape. The HIVE Flow carries more stone per kW and delivers softer, more sustained, more even heat. Choose the HIVE Wood if you want the iconic cylinder and maximum output for a large room; choose the HIVE Flow if you want the gentlest, longest-lasting löyly and the most thermal mass per kW. Neither is better in the abstract — they're tuned for different feels.
Plan on the Flow or Flow Mini stove + a chimney kit (or the bundled package) + sauna stones if not included + a water bucket and ladle as your minimum. If you go LS, the mounting collar and protective bed accessory come with the stove. Confirm any clearance shielding your local code requires. Comparing the Flow against the wider category? The wood-burning sauna heaters collection shows where it sits next to other brands' stoves, the Harvia wood-burning packages are the closest competing bundles, and the complete sauna heater lineup puts every wood and electric option in one place.
HUUM's warranty is valid only through authorized dealers like Topture — grey-market stoves from third-party resellers frequently aren't covered even when the product looks identical. We're an authorized HUUM dealer, ship free, and our team's available if you hit a question on Flow vs. Flow Mini sizing, feed style, or chimney configuration during your build.
