Barrel sauna porch sizes and footprint

Porches on the Dundalk and True North barrels we carry come in two general formats. Dundalk LeisureCraft builds the porch onto the Serenity, Serenity MP, Tranquility and Tranquility MP and counts it in each listed footprint: the Serenity is 94-1/2" long over a 71"-deep room, and each MP version is the same length as its base model.

The True North Schooner barrel takes a different approach: every length from 6 ft to 10 ft is offered with or without a porch at the same price, and True North builds the porch into the barrel's standard length — 1 ft on the 8-ft model, 2 ft on the 9- and 10-ft — so it shortens the room rather than extending the footprint.

Wood-burning vs electric heaters for a barrel sauna with porch

A porch gives a wood-burning barrel sauna a sheltered spot to stack firewood and keep the bucket and ladle dry. At Topture every Dundalk and True North barrel in this collection is offered with a Harvia M3 wood-burning stove kit, and the Tranquility and Tranquility MP also with a HUUM HIVE Wood 13 kW package; more stoves are in our wood-burning sauna heaters.

For electric heat, the Recommended heater packages on the Dundalk and True North porch barrels are HUUM DROP packages of 7.5 or 9 kW. Choose a wood-burning stove for a barrel sauna with porch that heats without any electrical connection, or an electric heater if you would rather not tend a fire. To skip choosing a heater, the SunRay Oasis comes with a 6 kW Harvia heater and is electric only.

A barrel sauna with porch needs a level base across its full footprint, porch included. Dundalk LeisureCraft's instructions list a concrete pad, a wood deck, crushed stone or patio stones, sloped slightly to the back for drainage, and recommend building the base larger than required to give you a sitting area for cooling off; SunRay's barrel manual says not to set the sauna directly on the ground. The Tranquility's listed footprint, porch included, is 86-1/4" × 118" (about 7.2 × 9.8 ft); a 10-foot Schooner is 10 feet long with or without its porch.

Dundalk LeisureCraft — handcrafted from Eastern White Cedar (their "Canadian Timber" line). The Serenity and Tranquility include a front porch as standard; the Serenity MP and Tranquility MP keep the same porch and add half-moon panoramic windows. The Elation, which Dundalk also calls a barrel sauna, has two front-facing windows and two outside benches at the front.

True North — Canadian barrel maker that hand-crafts its saunas in Ontario. The Schooner lets you pick your length (6, 8, 9, or 10 ft) and pick your wood (white cedar or red cedar). The Schooner starts at $8,153 in White Cedar at 6 feet, and Topture also offers True North's 8-, 9- and 10-foot long barrels with or without a porch.

Compact barrel saunas with a porch

The Serenity and Serenity MP are Dundalk's compact porch barrels, with seating for three to five in Dundalk's own description. A 6-ft True North Schooner keeps its 6-ft length with the porch and is listed for two to four; SunRay's Oasis, sold for two to four, has a canopy at the door instead.

4–6 person barrel saunas with a porch

The Tranquility and Tranquility MP lengthen Dundalk's room to 94-3/4" inside, with seating for four to six in Dundalk's own description and the same porch. An 8-ft True North barrel or Schooner with its porch sits in the same class.

6–8 person barrel saunas with a porch

Topture lists the Schooner's 9-ft and 10-ft lengths and True North's 9-ft long barrel for six to eight people, and the 10-ft long barrel for eight. With its porch, a 9-ft True North barrel has the same interior length as an 8-ft one with its porch.
