Choose 10.5kW when your room's effective volume — the room plus the manufacturer's allowance for glass and other uninsulated surfaces — is above what the 9kW heaters are rated for: 460 cu ft for HUUM and 494 cu ft for Harvia.
Glass is where most rooms cross that line. Harvia's manuals add about 3.94 cu ft for every square foot of glass or other uninsulated surface (1.2 m³ per m²) and HUUM's manuals 3.3 cu ft, so a 400 cu ft cabin with a full 6 × 7 ft glass front (42 sq ft) sizes like roughly 540–565 cu ft — beyond every 9kW rating and inside the 10.5kW ranges. Topture's heater size calculator does the arithmetic.
When the effective volume sits inside both a 9kW and a 10.5kW rating, either is within the manufacturer's specification; compare the two heaters' manuals, stone loads and controls.
HUUM CLIFF 10.5kW — Freestanding pillar design, 165 lbs stone capacity. Rated 354–566 cu ft. Pairs with any UKU controller (local, WiFi, WiFi Glass, WiFi Mirror). The CLIFF 10.5kW Package bundles the heater, a UKU controller, and stones.
HUUM HIVE Mini 10.5kW — Cylindrical floor-standing design, 330 lbs stone capacity, rated 354–566 cu ft — tied with the STEEL 10.5kW for the heaviest stone load here. Fits mid-to-large rooms where you want serious löyly without stepping up to the full HIVE. Includes UKU controller in the bundled package.
HUUM STEEL 10.5kW — Floor-standing, 330 lbs stone capacity, rated 354–566 cu ft; also sold as a package with a UKU controller and stones.
HUUM doesn't make a 10.5kW DROP, and it has no wall-mounted heater at this output: its 10.5kW CLIFF, STEEL and HIVE Mini are all floor-standing.
Harvia Virta 10.5kW (HL110E) — Premium floor-standing heater, 154 lbs stone capacity, stainless construction, rated 177–635 cu ft. Pairs with Xenio CX170 or CX45 controller. Available as an individual heater or in a bundled Virta 10.5kW Package with controller, WiFi, and stones.
Harvia Virta Combi 10.5kW (HL110SA) — The Virta 10.5kW with a built-in steam generator for combination dry/steam sessions. Requires the CX30C combi controller (included in the bundled package).
Harvia Cilindro Half 10.5kW — Column heater that stands on the floor and fixes to the wall with a bracket, 264 lbs stone capacity — the highest Harvia stone load at this power level — rated 141–636 cu ft. Mid-to-large rooms with limited wall space. Available with external Xenio controller.
Saunum Air L 10 (9.8kW) — Saunum's large-room heater with the climate equalizer fan system that mixes hot ceiling air with cooler floor air. It is rated 247–459 cu ft, a smaller range than the 10.5kW heaters here, and it is listed with the large sauna heaters. Worth a look if uneven heat is your sauna's biggest annoyance.
Plan the electrical early at this size. Older homes may need a sub-panel upgrade, so check your panel's capacity and the distance to the sauna with your electrician before you commit.
Current draw can be estimated from heater output and voltage, but breaker size, conductor size and circuit configuration must be taken from the installation manual for the specific heater. Two heaters with the same kW rating can have different electrical requirements. Every Topture heater page lists the manufacturer specifications for that model. Final installation must be verified by a licensed electrician.
Before committing, read our full electrical requirements guide for rough-in and conduit planning.
Some 10.5kW models (Virta, Virta Combi) are also available in 208V three-phase for commercial installs. If you're in a commercial building with three-phase service, three-phase is actually easier on the wiring — lower amperage per leg.
Manufacturer ratings for the 10.5kW heaters here: HUUM CLIFF, STEEL and HIVE Mini 354–566 cu ft; Harvia Virta and Virta Combi 177–635; Cilindro Half 141–636. In practice:
A typical 10.5kW room is an outdoor cube sauna with a full-glass front. SaunaLife, for example, lists 10.5kW HUUM HIVE Mini and Harvia Cilindro packages (and the 9.8kW Saunum Air L) as heater options for its CL7G, which measures 306 cu ft inside before the glass is counted.
Every 10.5kW heater in this collection supports WiFi app control. HUUM models pair with the UKU WiFi (black, white, wood, glass, or mirror finishes). Harvia models pair with the Xenio WiFi module, which plugs into the Xenio CX170, CX30, or CX45 controller. See our WiFi-controlled heater page for the full comparison.
Remote starting depends on the control's own safety devices, as set out in each manual: HUUM's UKU kit includes a door sensor, and its manual says to remove any items from the heater and close the door before starting it remotely; Saunum's AirIQ can be run remotely only once the heater or sauna door has a door sensor; and Harvia's Xenio supports a safety switch, such as the Harvia SFE, that stops the heater if something falls onto it. Your electrician confirms any additional local requirement.
Stone capacity at 10.5kW varies dramatically by model: HUUM CLIFF needs 165 lbs, HUUM HIVE Mini and STEEL need 330 lbs, Harvia Virta needs 154 lbs, Harvia Cilindro Half needs 264 lbs. Always use proper olivine diabase stones from the heater brand — available through our sauna rock collection. Fill the basket to capacity; a half-filled basket on a 10.5kW defeats the thermal mass advantage.
