Hybrid Saunas

Hybrid saunas compared: seats, size, heaters and price

Choose between the two hybrid saunas in this collection by the number of people and the room:

• Two people, a smaller room: start with the FD-4 Trinity, which Finnmark rates for two people and which stands on the smaller footprint.
• Three or four people, a larger room: choose the FD-5 Trinity XL, which Finnmark rates for three to four people. It stands on the larger footprint, and Finnmark fits it with a 4.5 kW Harvia KIP45B, where the FD-4 has a 1.9 kW Harvia Vega Compact.

Hybrid, infrared-only or traditional sauna

A hybrid or combo sauna is for a buyer who wants two kinds of heat in one cabin; a buyer who needs just one kind can begin with a single-heat collection:

• Infrared heat alone: browse infrared saunas, or full spectrum infrared saunas. The Trinity models use Finnmark's Spectrum Plus heaters only, with no carbon panels, and Finnmark says those heaters produce mid and far infrared; Finnmark's FD-1, FD-2 and FD-3 add Spectrum Carbon panels, which it describes as long-wave, far-infrared.
• Stone heat alone: browse traditional saunas, or indoor traditional saunas for a room in the house.
• Still weighing the two kinds of heat: how infrared and traditional heat compare sets them side by side, and whether a hybrid is worth it for you weighs the case for one cabin with two kinds of heat.

Hybrid sauna prices and what they include

Hybrid saunas in this collection run from $7,795 for the FD-4 Trinity to $8,995 for the FD-5 Trinity XL. Each price covers the infrared heaters, the Harvia heater and Finnmark's Spectrum Red Light™ LED panel, which Finnmark specifies at 650 nm with color settings. Bathing Brands, Finnmark's distributor, includes Harvia AC3000 sauna stones with both models, freight within the contiguous United States is included on both, and neither has a heater package to choose.

Budget for either Trinity as its price plus the electrical work your room needs and the professional installation Finnmark's manuals call for. For red light as the deciding feature, browse red light therapy saunas.

Hybrid sauna power: 120 V for the FD-4, 240 V for the FD-5's heater

• FD-4 Trinity, 120 V: Finnmark's manual requires a dedicated 15 A, 120 V circuit with a NEMA 5-15 receptacle for the infrared side, with no other devices on that circuit, and Finnmark lists the Harvia Vega Compact heater at 120 V and 15.9 A.
• FD-5 Trinity XL, 240 V heater: Finnmark lists the Harvia KIP45B heater at 240 V and 18.8 A and marks it "Electrician Required". Ask Topture about the FD-5's infrared supply before you plan the wiring.

Where 240 V cannot be added, start with the FD-4 Trinity, whose dedicated infrared circuit and Harvia heater are both 120 V as Finnmark lists them. Rule out the FD-5 Trinity XL unless its heater can be given one of the supplies Bathing Brands lists for it: 240 V single-phase or 208 V three-phase.

Finnmark specifies no circuit for either Harvia heater: both Trinity manuals end the heater installation with "Provide Harvia heater installation manual to licensed electrician", and what to ask your electrician lists the questions to raise. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the sauna's manual, the Harvia heater's manual and your local code.

Hybrid sauna placement, delivery and assembly

Finnmark's manuals say the FD-4 and FD-5 are intended for indoor use, and that each is a self-contained, freestanding unit that should not be built into any structure; a basement, a garage and a spare bedroom are among the locations they suggest. Each needs a solid surface in a dry area, with at least 3 inches free above it and around it so the main power cord stays accessible.

Outdoors, Finnmark allows an FD sauna only under its outdoor cover and beneath an awning or overhang, on sturdy, dry, level ground, and says placing it outside without the cover voids the warranty. For a sauna that will stand in the open yard, compare outdoor saunas instead.

Bathing Brands ships each Trinity on a wooden pallet. Finnmark's manuals show the sauna arriving as prefabricated panels, bench parts and a power supply that are screwed together on site, and require at least two physically able people to install it.

Finnmark's FD-4 and FD-5 manuals call for no drain, water line or plumbing connection. A staircase, hallway or doorway on the way to the room is worth checking: raise site-access questions before you order.

Buying hybrid saunas from Topture

Topture is a specialist multi-brand online sauna retailer and an authorized Finnmark Designs retailer, and Finnmark Designs makes both hybrid saunas in this collection.

A Trinity travels by freight to the curb on a booked delivery appointment, with a liftgate on most shipments, and an adult signs the Bill of Lading. Note any damage on that Bill of Lading at delivery: Topture's full-value freight protection then replaces the broken parts.

Each Trinity includes the applicable manufacturer's warranty, subject to the manufacturer's terms (see Finnmark Designs), and Topture assists with troubleshooting and warranty coordination. Questions about the power supplies, the room or the delivery go to Topture's Lifetime Expert Support by phone at (833) 419-1774, by live chat or by email at contact@topture.com.
