4 person infrared sauna sizes and seating

A 4 person infrared sauna is an infrared cabin sized for up to four people. In this collection, SunRay rates four of its five cabins for four people and Finnmark rates both of its saunas for three to four; SunRay publishes no seat rating for the Roslyn, which Topture lists for four.

Inside width and depth say more about room for four than the seat label does, and the table below gives them for six of the seven saunas. Width and depth can part ways: Finnmark's manual puts the FD-3's interior at 67.2 inches wide but 41.6 inches deep. For four adults who often sit together, shortlist the FD-5 Trinity XL and the Pacific, the widest of those six inside, and the Bristol Bay, the deepest, which SunRay lists at 61 by 61 inches.

Outside size settles two fit questions for a 4 person infrared sauna:

• Under a low ceiling. Height can decide whether a 4 person infrared sauna fits a basement or spare room. The FD-5 Trinity XL is 83.1 inches tall outside, and Finnmark's manuals ask for at least 3 inches of clearance above the sauna and on all sides, so the main power cord stays accessible; check the ceiling against both figures before choosing the FD-5.
• In the yard. For a 4 person infrared sauna on a shallow spot, choose the Cayenne over the Pacific: SunRay lists the Cayenne's roof footprint at 89 by 67 inches against the Pacific's 88 by 82, though the Pacific is the roomier of the two inside.

4 person infrared saunas by heat, placement and layout

A family can narrow the seven 4 person infrared saunas here by heat, red light, placement and room shape.

• Far infrared or full spectrum. The five SunRays here run on carbon far-infrared heaters. Finnmark calls the FD-3 full spectrum: it has four Spectrum Plus heaters on the back wall, one under the bench and two on the front wall, which Finnmark says produce mid and far infrared, plus Spectrum Carbon far-infrared heaters on the side walls. Choose a SunRay for far-infrared heat alone, or the FD-3 for the pairing of Spectrum Plus and carbon heaters that Finnmark calls full spectrum. • Infrared with hot stones. The FD-5 Trinity XL sets a 4.5 kW Harvia KIP45B sauna heater beside those Spectrum Plus heaters; Finnmark describes its steam as water splashed onto the heater's rocks, and its manuals call for no drain or water line. Choose the FD-5 Trinity XL if some of the family want a stone heater as well as infrared; it is a hybrid, the kind grouped under hybrid saunas.
• Red light. For red light from a dedicated LED panel, choose the FD-5 Trinity XL, which Finnmark fits with a Spectrum Red Light LED panel specified at 650 nm. The FD-3 has a red setting on its multi-color LED ceiling light instead, for which Finnmark publishes no wavelength; see also red light therapy saunas.
• Indoor room or backyard. The Cayenne and the Pacific are SunRay's outdoor cabins here, weather-sealed under a metal composite roof, with an exterior SunRay's manuals ask you to reseal or repaint every year. SunRay's FAQ says its indoor saunas are not suitable for outdoor use; Finnmark's manuals allow the FD-3 and the FD-5 Trinity XL outside only with Finnmark's outdoor cover, under an awning or overhang, on sturdy, dry, level ground. • A corner of the room. If the sauna has to fit a room corner, start with the Bristol Bay, the cabin in this collection tagged as a corner model, which SunRay lists at 65 by 65 inches outside.

How much does a 4 person infrared sauna cost?

SunRay's five cabins sit at the lower end of the price range in this collection and the Finnmark FD-5 Trinity XL at the top, at $8,995; the From column in the table gives every model's current price.

The listed price of each 4 person infrared sauna here includes its heaters and its freight within the contiguous United States, and none asks you to choose a heater package. SunRay lists the infrared heaters among each cabin's inclusions, Finnmark builds the FD-3's infrared heaters in, and Bathing Brands, Finnmark's distributor, includes the FD-5 Trinity XL's Harvia heater and Harvia sauna stones. On top of the listed price, budget for an electrician wherever the room needs a new outlet or circuit, and in any room for the FD-5 Trinity XL's heater, which Finnmark marks "Electrician Required".

Power for a 4 person infrared sauna: 120 V outlet or 240 V circuit

The power supply a room can offer decides which 4 person infrared saunas it can take:

• 120 V on a dedicated circuit. SunRay lists its three indoor cabins here for a 110–120 V supply on an outlet that no other appliance shares and gives 20 A for each of them, so check that the outlet sits on a dedicated 20 A circuit before you order.
• 240 V on a dedicated circuit. SunRay says the outdoor Pacific needs a dedicated 220–240 V circuit and lists 30 A for it. Finnmark's manual requires a dedicated 15 A, 240 V circuit with a NEMA 6-15 receptacle for the FD-3, with no other devices on the same circuit.
• The FD-5 Trinity XL's heater. Finnmark lists the Harvia KIP45B at 240 V and 18.8 A, and Bathing Brands notes that 208 V three-phase operation is also available. Finnmark specifies no circuit for the heater itself; its manual tells the installer to give the Harvia installation manual to a licensed electrician. The supply for the FD-5's infrared heaters is a question to put to Topture.
• The Cayenne. SunRay's manual for the Cayenne calls for a dedicated power outlet that no other appliance shares; check the voltage with Topture before the wiring is planned.

A room that cannot get a 240 V circuit rules out the Pacific and the FD-3, and the FD-5 Trinity XL too unless the building has 208 V three-phase power for its Harvia heater. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the sauna's manual, the Harvia heater's manual for a Trinity model, and your local code.

Delivery, assembly and base for a 4 person infrared sauna

Freight carries a 4 person infrared sauna from this collection to a delivery appointment: the driver brings it to the curb, using a liftgate on most shipments, and an adult aged 18 or over signs the Bill of Lading. Raise site-access questions before you order.

A SunRay comes as pre-built panels packed in cardboard boxes on a wooden pallet, boxes SunRay says fit through any door 24 inches or wider, and two people join the panels with a Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit: under an hour for the indoor cabins and about two hours for the Cayenne and the Pacific, by SunRay's figures. Finnmark's manuals show the FD-3 and the FD-5 Trinity XL arriving as prefabricated panels, which Bathing Brands ships on a wooden pallet, but those manuals state "Professional installation required" and call for at least two people. A family assembling the sauna itself should choose a SunRay; a Finnmark needs an installer in the budget.

The floor under a 4 person infrared sauna has to meet its maker's requirements and should be ready before delivery. In a room of the house, SunRay's manual wants a fairly level surface in a dry area and a floor separator where the floor is damp; Finnmark's manuals want a solid surface in a dry area. For the backyard, SunRay's D3 manual names a level surface such as a wooden deck, concrete pad or pavers for the Cayenne, with a waterproof barrier between the sauna floor and the surface where the site is damp or the sauna sits on pavers or other ground-contact surfaces; its D6 manual asks for a sturdy level surface such as a concrete pad, wood deck or other solid surface for the Pacific, never directly on the ground.
