4 person indoor saunas side by side: seats, heat, size and power

A 4 person indoor sauna is a cabin for a room in the house sized for four people, by its maker or, where the maker gives no figure, by Topture's listing, either exactly or within a range such as 3–4 or 4–5. SunRay rates a cabin for exactly four, as it does the Sequoia, while other makers here give a range that takes in four, as Finnmark does with 3 to 4 for the FD-3, and the table's Seats column shows each model's figure and whose it is.

Every seat figure in the table, a maker's or Topture's, reaches four, the Lumaria's in its Large size, so seats rule out none of these 4 person indoor saunas, and the choice turns on who bathes most days:

• Four bathers most days. Choose on bench layout and floor space rather than on the seat figure; SunRay, for one, builds the Tiburon with two-tiered bench seating.
• Two most days, guests now and then. Dundalk LeisureCraft puts the Studio's comfortable seating at 2–4, which suits that pattern, and SunRay says the Charleston's two-tier double bench comfortably accommodates four bathers or lets two people stretch out.

Fitting a 4 person indoor sauna: floor space, height and corners

Floor space for a 4 person indoor sauna in this collection varies widely. SunRay's six cabins here run 65 to 72 inches wide and 53 to 65 inches deep, and the other cabins whose outside size the table gives take more floor, up to ThermaSol's Astra at 85.4 by 85.4 inches plus the 2-inch air gap ThermaSol requires around its unfinished cabin sides. Where the table gives no outside size, check the product page or ask Topture before measuring.

Outside height is the first check on whether a 4 person indoor sauna fits under a basement's beams and ducts. SunRay's six cabins stand 75 to 80 inches tall outside, and Dundalk lists every Element model, the Studio included, at just over 88 inches tall outside. Finnmark's manuals also ask for at least 3 inches of clearance above its saunas and on all sides. Measure up to the lowest beam or duct, and have Topture confirm the room height a model needs before you order.

For a 4 person corner sauna, look first at SunRay's Bristol Bay, which Topture tags as a corner model and SunRay lists at 65 by 65 inches outside, and at ThermaSol's Astra, which ThermaSol builds with a corner layout and a glass-panel front. If the Aalto suits the room instead, ThermaSol builds its glass corner in left- and right-hand versions, with the heater on the opposite side, so pick the hand that fits where the sauna will stand.

Room requirements differ between SunRay, Finnmark and ThermaSol. SunRay's manual asks that its indoor infrared cabins stand somewhere dry on a fairly level surface, adding a floor separator if the floor is damp. Planning a garage or attic? Finnmark's manuals name both, along with a basement, playroom, spare bedroom or new extension, as places for its freestanding FD saunas, on a solid surface in a dry area, while a ThermaSol cabin needs the room to be dry and climate-controlled, the indoor space its specification sheets call for.

Infrared, electric heater or both: heat in a 4 person indoor sauna

The 4 person indoor saunas here come with one of five heat set-ups, and the set-up decides the temperature range, the wiring and whether you choose the heater:

• Sequoia, Roslyn, Bristol Bay: SunRay far infrared. Carbon nano heaters come built into these three; SunRay's manual for these indoor models names them far-infrared heater elements. That manual lets you adjust the temperature anywhere from 64 to 140°F. Choose one of these three for infrared heat at the cooler end of the temperatures here.
• FD-3: Finnmark's full spectrum. In this cabin, Spectrum Plus heaters, mid and far infrared by Finnmark's account, are combined with Spectrum Carbon far-infrared panels fixed to the side walls, a mix Finnmark calls full spectrum. Its control can be set as high as 170°F, a setting Finnmark notes the sauna may not reach, depending on room temperature, air flow and placement, and its multi-color LED ceiling light has a red setting with no wavelength given by Finnmark. Choose the FD-3 for mid and far infrared in a cabin heated by infrared alone.
• FD-5 Trinity XL: hybrid heat. Finnmark builds Spectrum Plus infrared heaters, the type the FD-3 also uses, and a 4.5 kW Harvia KIP45B stone heater into this one cabin, and Bathing Brands, Finnmark's distributor, includes Harvia sauna stones. Finnmark's account of the steam is water splashed onto the heater's rocks, and the FD-5's manuals call for no drain, water line or plumbing connection, while the cabin also carries Finnmark's Spectrum Red Light LED panel, specified at 650 nm. Choose it if the household wants infrared sessions on some days and a stone heater on others, with more on that kind of cabin under indoor hybrid saunas.
• Six cabins with a maker-picked electric heater. SunRay heats its three traditional cabins here with a Harvia electric heater, and ThermaSol its three with the 9 kW Harvia Virta. By SunRay's figures the Tiburon's 6 kW heater produces temperatures up to 170°F and the Galaxie reaches temperatures up to 180°F, while ThermaSol's specification sheets put the Virta's top setting in its three cabins at 194°F. Choose one of these six if you want an electric sauna heater picked by its maker, with no infrared.
• Dundalk Studio: heater package of your choice. It is the cabin here sold with a heater-package selector, and Dundalk designs its Element saunas for electric heaters only. Its options are HUUM's DROP 6 kW with a UKU Wi-Fi control, the package Topture marks Recommended, or one of two Harvia KIP 6 kW kits that come with stones, the first with digital Wi-Fi controls and the second with controls built into the heater. Choose the Studio if you want the say over which heater brand and which controls go in.

What a 4 person indoor sauna costs and what the price covers

Starting prices for a 4 person indoor sauna here run from $4,298, shared by SunRay's lowest-priced cabins, up to $23,604 for ThermaSol's Astra, and the Lumaria's price varies with the option chosen. SunRay's six cabins here fill the lower end of that range and ThermaSol's three the upper end, with the two Finnmarks and the Dundalk Studio between them.

Nine of the 12 saunas here, the SunRay, Finnmark and Dundalk models, include freight to the contiguous United States in their price, and freight for ThermaSol saunas is quoted per order. Electrical supply for a 4 person indoor sauna

The supply a 4 person indoor sauna needs follows its heat. SunRay's three infrared cabins here run on 110–120 V from an outlet that serves nothing else, and SunRay gives each of them 20 A, listed as the circuit for the Sequoia and on its 2023 data sheets for the other two. The FD-3 takes 240 V instead: Finnmark's manual wants a dedicated 15 A circuit that feeds nothing else, ending in a NEMA 6-15 receptacle.

SunRay says each of its traditional saunas here needs a circuit of its own at 220–240 V, as an electric dryer does, and ThermaSol's specification sheets put its three cabins here on a dedicated 240 V single-phase supply. On the FD-5, Finnmark puts the stone heater at 18.8 A on 240 V, labels it "Electrician Required" and specifies no circuit for it, and the heater section of its manual closes by handing the Harvia manual to a licensed electrician, while the supply for its infrared heaters is something to raise with Topture before any wiring is planned. For the Dundalk Studio, the manual of the chosen heater package gives the supply.

A room limited to a dedicated 120 V outlet points to the three SunRay infrared cabins here; the other models here with a stated supply need a 220–240 V circuit, and the FD-5 Trinity XL's Harvia heater can instead take the 208 V three-phase supply Bathing Brands also lists. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the sauna's manual, the heater's manual where the sauna has a stone heater, and your local code.

Delivering and assembling a 4 person indoor sauna

A 4 person indoor sauna travels on a freight truck, and on the booked appointment day it is delivered to the curb, with a liftgate on most shipments. The Bill of Lading takes the signature of an adult 18 or older, so plan who will be at home, and map the route from the street to the sauna room in advance; raise site-access questions before you order.

What arrives at the curb differs by maker. SunRay's pre-built panels come boxed in cardboard on a wooden pallet, in boxes that, SunRay says, go through a doorway of 24 inches or more, and Finnmark's FD saunas arrive as prefabricated panels that Bathing Brands ships on a wooden pallet. ThermaSol's three cabins here come flat-packed on a flatbed trailer, says Bathing Brands, its distributor, and Dundalk ships the Element range in ready-to-assemble panels. Unloading differs as well: Bathing Brands adds that on a residential delivery the freight company offloads the ThermaSol cabins, with no forklift or loading dock needed, while Dundalk's Shipping Information makes unloading the crate the customer's job, not the trucking company's, and suggests a forklift with fork lift extensions or a tilt tow truck from the local terminal.

SunRay, ThermaSol and Finnmark each set a different assembly crew for a 4 person indoor sauna. SunRay's indoor infrared cabins are put up in under an hour by SunRay's figures, with two people, a Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit, and no contractor, while ThermaSol's installation manuals ask for 2–4 people and Finnmark's manuals state "Professional installation required" and want at least two people. A household doing its own assembly should look at SunRay first, plan on up to four people for a ThermaSol, and budget for an installer with a Finnmark.
