The Steel is where HUUM's price ladder starts. It trades the sculptural shapes of the Drop, Cliff, and Hive for a clean rectangular shell — and in doing so it brings HUUM's signature steam quality down to the most accessible price in the lineup. You're not giving up the thing that matters. Like every HUUM electric heater, the elements sit buried in the stone rather than blowing past exposed coils, so the Steel still produces the soft, humid löyly HUUM is known for and still reaches 230°F, the highest max temp in the home category.
What you trade for the lower price is design and, on the Steel Mini, stone mass — not steam performance. The Steel Series holds a serious 330 lbs of stone, the same as the Hive Mini, which is unusually generous for an entry-tier heater. If you've been comparing options across the HUUM electric heater range and want HUUM quality without paying for a statement piece, the Steel is the value play.
The Steel Series is the main event: a rectangular heater you can mount on the wall or stand on the floor, your choice, carrying 330 lbs of stone. It covers roughly 212 to 600 cubic feet across three wattages, and it runs on either 240V or 208V depending on your wiring. The 6kW suits compact 2–3 person rooms, the 9kW is the workhorse for 3–4 person builds, and the 10.5kW handles the largest rooms in the line, pushing toward 600 cu ft. The wall-or-floor flexibility is genuinely useful — you can hang it to save floor space or stand it where a bracket doesn't make sense.
The Steel Mini is the small-room specialist: a wall-mount 3.5kW heater carrying 133 lbs of stone, rated for roughly 123 to 212 cubic feet. That's the heater for a tight 1–2 person sauna, a closet conversion, or a compact indoor build where a full-size heater would cook the room. It's also the most affordable entry point in the whole HUUM electric range.
Sizing the Steel is the same logic as any sauna heater: match kW to cubic footage, and when you're between two sizes, go up. Glass doors, tile, and cold exterior walls all pull a room's effective heat demand higher, and an undersized heater never quite reaches temperature.
The Steel Mini's 3.5kW runs on a smaller circuit suitable for tiny rooms. The Steel Series runs on 240V (or 208V): the 6kW pulls 25 amps on a 30A breaker (10 AWG), the 9kW pulls 37.5 amps on a 40A breaker (8 AWG), and the 10.5kW pulls 43.75 amps on a 50A breaker (8 AWG). Each heater needs its own dedicated circuit and a licensed electrician for the hookup. Our sauna electrical rough-in guide covers what to confirm before the electrician arrives. Electrical requirements vary by local code — always have a licensed electrician verify your specific install.
The Steel will not run without a HUUM UKU controller, sold separately. Because the Steel tops out at 10.5kW, you never need the UKU Extension Box that the full Hive's larger models require — any UKU works directly.
Browse the full lineup in our UKU controller collection. UKU Local is a wired wall panel with no WiFi. UKU WiFi adds the HUUM mobile app for phone preheating and scheduling. UKU Glass and UKU Mirror are the WiFi version in glass or mirror finishes. On a budget-minded Steel build, the UKU Local keeps the total cost down, while the WiFi-controllable options are worth it if preheating from your phone matters to you. Any UKU pairs with any Steel without an Extension Box.
Here's the thing buyers miss about the Steel: on the Series models, you're not giving up steam quality to save money. With 330 lbs of stone, the Steel Series recovers between water pours just like the Hive Mini does — throw water and the room fills with humid löyly without the temperature crashing. Use 2"–4" rounded olivine stones and fill the basket fully; source the right stone from our sauna rocks collection. The Steel Mini holds less stone (133 lbs) simply because it's a small heater for a small room — that's appropriate, not a compromise.
The Steel is the value choice, and the comparison is mostly about design and form factor. The HUUM Drop is the iconic wall-mounted teardrop at 121 lbs — a design statement, where the Steel is purpose-built and plain. The HUUM Cliff is the sculptural freestanding pillar with 165–202 lbs of stone for floor installs. The HUUM Hive Mini matches the Steel Series' 330 lbs of stone but in a cylindrical floor-standing shape at a higher price. And the full HUUM Hive is the 595 lbs giant for large and commercial rooms.
Choose the Steel when you want HUUM's 230°F steam quality at the lowest price, and when a clean rectangular shell suits your room better than a design piece. The wall-or-floor flexibility on the Series is a real advantage for tight builds. Step up to the Drop, Cliff, or Hive Mini only if the look of the heater matters to you — the steam from a properly loaded Steel Series holds its own against any of them.
The Steel reaches a 230°F surface, so a guard rail keeping benches and bodies clear of the heater isn't optional where seating sits close. Stones are mandatory before the heater can be powered on. Sourcing à la carte, plan on heater + UKU controller + stones as the minimum. If you'd rather not piece it together, our HUUM electric heater packages bundle the heater, your choice of UKU controller, and stones at a package price.
HUUM's warranty runs 3 years on the heater body and UKU controller for residential use, valid only through authorized dealers like Topture. Grey-market Steel heaters from Amazon and eBay resellers frequently aren't covered by HUUM even when they look identical — confirm the dealer before you order. We're an authorized HUUM dealer, ship every Steel free, and our team is available if you hit a question during install.
