4kW sauna heaters by maker: Harvia and HUUM
The 4kW sauna heaters here come from two makers, Harvia and HUUM, and stone load, mounting and controls set them apart:
-
Choose the HUUM DROP over the KIP 4.5 kW for a larger stone load: HUUM's US manual says the DROP takes approximately 121.3 lb (55 kg) of stones, where Harvia's KIP manuals give the KIP 4.5 kW 44 lb (20 kg). HUUM's US manuals give the CLIFF Mini and STEEL Mini more again, approximately 132 lb (60 kg) each. HUUM attaches the DROP to the sauna wall on its mounting frame.
-
Choose the Harvia KIP with built-in controls if you want the thermostat and the timer on the heater itself. Harvia hangs the KIP on the sauna wall from its rear mounting brackets and documents no Wi-Fi control for this version.
-
Choose the Harvia KIP with separate control if you want the control apart from the heater: Harvia says this version runs from a separate control unit bought on its own. Bathing Brands, Harvia's US distributor, lists the Xenio CX170 as the control it requires. The CX170's Wi-Fi versions connect to the MyHarvia app.
-
Choose the CLIFF Mini or STEEL Mini for a HUUM heater here that stands on legs: HUUM stands both on legs and attaches them to the wall with a special bracket. Their output is on each product page.
-
For a HUUM heater, choose the UKU Wi-Fi if you want to run the sauna from the HUUM app; the UKU Local runs from its wall panel only, with no app. HUUM's electric heaters here have no built-in control, and its manuals also allow other certified sauna-heater controls rated for the heater's output.
To compare app-controlled heaters across outputs, see sauna heaters with Wi-Fi control.
4kW sauna heater supply and amps by maker
Every heater and package in the 4kW sauna heater collection is listed by its maker for a 240 V supply.
- Harvia's KIP manual lists the KIP 4.5 kW at 18.8 amps on 240 V single-phase, and the KIP-45-W3 with separate control at 12.5 amps on 208 V three-phase.
- HUUM's US manual lists the DROP 4 (4.5 kW) at 18.75 amps on 240 V.
- HUUM lists the CLIFF Mini and STEEL Mini at 14.58 amps on 240 V, and gives ratings for 208 V supplies as well.
For a three-phase connection at 208 V, choose the stainless KIP with separate control, the one heater here that Harvia lists in a 208 V three-phase version, on its own or in the multi-size KIP package with Xenio Wi-Fi control. For background before you talk to an electrician, read about sauna electrical requirements. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.
4kW sauna heater room sizes by maker's range
Harvia and HUUM size a heater to the sauna room's volume, and a model fits a room whose volume falls between the minimum and maximum its maker prints for it. Count walls without insulation first. Harvia adds 1.2 m³ for each square meter of brick, glass block, glass, concrete or tile, about 3.9 cu ft per sq ft, counts a glass door the same way and multiplies a solid-log sauna's volume by 1.5. HUUM's manuals for the CLIFF Mini and STEEL Mini add 3.3 cu ft for each square foot of uninsulated brick, tile or glass wall.
Choose a 4kW sauna heater by where the room's adjusted volume falls:
-
100 to 106 cubic feet: choose the KIP 4.5 kW, which Harvia's KIP manuals size for 100–210 cubic feet; HUUM's ranges for the DROP 4 and the two Minis begin at 106.
-
106 to 177 cubic feet: the KIP 4.5 kW, the DROP 4, the CLIFF Mini and the STEEL Mini are each within their makers' ranges, as HUUM sizes the two Minis for rooms up to 177 cubic feet; choose among them by stone load, mounting and controls.
-
177 to 210 cubic feet: choose the KIP 4.5 kW or HUUM's DROP 4, which HUUM's current US manual sizes for rooms up to 248 cubic feet.
-
210 to 248 cubic feet: choose the DROP 4, or the 6 kW model on a KIP listing, which Harvia's KIP manuals size for 170–300 cubic feet.
-
Past 248 cubic feet: rule out the 4.5 kW models here and choose a larger output, such as the 6 kW model on the DROP heater listing, which HUUM sizes for 177–318 cubic feet.
4kW sauna heater alone or packaged with control and stones
The five heater-only listings in the 4kW sauna heater collection ship without sauna stones, by their makers' delivery lists. The seven packages here sell a heater and stones as one item:
-
Harvia KIP packages with built-in controls: the built-in-control KIP plus Harvia stones, as a 4.5 kW package or as a multi-size package in the output you choose.
-
Harvia KIP packages with Wi-Fi: the KIP with separate control, a Harvia Xenio CX170 control with Wi-Fi to match its supply, and Harvia stones, as a 4.5 kW package for 240 V single-phase or as a multi-size package in the output and supply you choose.
-
HUUM packages: each of Topture's three HUUM packages here pairs the heater with a HUUM UKU control, the UKU Local Black or the UKU Wi-Fi with a Black, Glass or Mirror panel, plus HUUM stones.
Choose a package if you want the heater, its stones and any control it needs in one purchase: each of the seven here lists them together. Already own the stones or a control? Each of the five heater listings here sells the heater by itself, with stones offered as an add-on on its product page; the HUUM heater listings and the KIP with separate control list a control among those add-ons too.
A 4kW sauna heater or package from this collection ships with freight included within the contiguous United States. Topture is an authorized Harvia retailer. It is also an authorized HUUM retailer, listed as an "E-shop" in HUUM's official dealer directory. Topture's other terms for buying any heater are gathered on the sauna heaters page.
Next steps after the 4kW sauna heaters: smaller rooms, larger rooms or a sizing check
Where to go next depends on how your room compares with the Harvia and HUUM ranges in the 4kW sauna heater collection:
- A room under 100 cubic feet, below every Harvia and HUUM range here: compare mini sauna heaters.
- A room larger than the 4.5 kW ranges here: step up to 6kW sauna heaters.
- Glass, tile or log walls you are unsure how to count: Topture's Lifetime Expert Support can check the room against the makers' ranges before you order.
