If you would rather not choose a barrel sauna heater, start with SunRay, the only brand here that sells its barrels with one. Choose True North for seven or eight seats, and SaunaLife's ERGO barrels if you prefer Thermo-Spruce to cedar.

How much does a barrel sauna cost?

A barrel sauna at Topture starts at $4,390 for the SaunaLife E6, a 3-person ERGO barrel, before SaunaLife's $950 freight charge and the heater package chosen on its page. Among barrels priced with their heater, SunRay's start at $4,790 for the 2-person Solace 200SH. True North's barrels are priced before their heater package; the True North Sauna 8 Person 10' Long Barrel Sauna starts at $10,469.

Options change the price within one barrel model: the SaunaLife E7 and E8 cost more with a rear window or a full glass front than with the glass door alone, and every True North barrel costs more in Red Cedar than in White Cedar. The costs beyond the barrel itself, such as the base and the electrical work, are set out in what a backyard sauna costs to buy and install.

Barrel sauna heaters: electric packages and wood-burning stoves

A barrel sauna at Topture can be heated by an electric heater or, on most models, by a wood-burning stove. The wood-burning packages offered on these barrels are Harvia M3 stove kits that come with Harvia's chimney and the stones, and the Dundalk Tranquility and Tranquility MP can also take a HUUM HIVE Wood 13 kW package. If you want to heat with firewood, start with wood burning barrel saunas, where every barrel with a wood-burning option is gathered.

An electric barrel sauna heater runs on its own circuit: HUUM's UKU control manual says to install the DROP on a dedicated circuit, SunRay lists its Solace 200SH for a dedicated 220–240 V circuit, and Dundalk LeisureCraft's assembly instructions say all electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.

Barrel sauna headroom and seating

A barrel sauna's curved walls are highest along the center line and lower over the benches, so the barrel's diameter decides how upright you can sit and whether you can stand. SaunaLife notes that a small-diameter barrel has a tighter arc, which can make sitting upright and standing harder and means ducking at the door, and gives its E6, E7 and E8 a 6 ft 5 in interior height; Dundalk LeisureCraft lists 79 inches of interior height for the Harmony, Serenity and Tranquility. If sitting upright matters more to you than the round shape, barrel and square saunas compared weighs the two forms.

Barrel sauna delivery, base and assembly

Barrel saunas at Topture arrive as kits for assembly on site and travel by freight to a curbside delivery booked by appointment. A Dundalk LeisureCraft crate longer than 92 inches comes without a liftgate, and Dundalk asks the buyer to plan how it comes off the truck, for example with a forklift, so raise site-access questions before you order.

For its barrels, Dundalk LeisureCraft asks for a solid base, level with a slight slope to the back for drainage, and names crushed stone, patio stones or pavers, a concrete pad or a wood deck as suitable.
