240V Sauna Heaters

The 34 heaters in this collection are 240V sauna heaters from Harvia, HUUM, Saunum and Amerec, each listed by its maker for a 240 V supply. Four of the Harvia listings also sell a 208 V three-phase version, so confirm your building's supply and your room's volume before you choose an output.

240V sauna heater supply: single-phase or 208 V three-phase

Harvia, Saunum and Sauna360, Amerec's parent company, list their 240V sauna heaters in this collection for 240 V single-phase, and HUUM's US manuals rate HUUM's heaters here on 240 V. The current drawn on that supply differs widely with output: Sauna360 lists the Amerec Junior 2.2 at 9.2 amps on 240 V, and HUUM lists the HIVE 18 at 75 amps.

Match the heater to the supply your electrician confirms at the panel:

A 240 V supply for the heater: keep every heater here on your shortlist, and let the room's volume and then the amps your panel can spare narrow it.
A 208 V three-phase building supply: start with the four Harvia listings that also sell a 208 V three-phase version, the stainless KIP with separate control (not the black one, which Harvia lists for 240 V single-phase only), the Club and the 10.5 kW Virta and Virta Combi, and order that version; Harvia lists the KIP-60-W3, for example, at 16.7 amps on that supply.
A 208 V supply and a HUUM heater: choose from the CLIFF and STEEL, Mini versions included, which HUUM's US manuals rate on both 240 V and 208 V. The CLIFF and STEEL outputs, room ranges and amps on this page are HUUM's 240 V figures, so size the heater from HUUM's 208 V rating with Topture's Lifetime Expert Support before you order; for any other HUUM heater here on a 208 V supply, ask Lifetime Expert Support first.
A panel with little spare capacity: settle the output your room needs, then set its amps against what the panel can spare: Harvia lists the Spirit SP80E, an 8 kW model, at 33.3 amps in total on a 240 V supply. If your panel cannot spare the draw of the output you settled on, choose a lower output only where its range still covers your room.
Only a 120 V circuit: rule out every heater here except the Amerec Junior 2.2, which Sauna360 lists for 120 V or 240 V; on 120 V its manual has a licensed electrician wire it permanently through a CB 13-1 contactor box to an SL2 or H3 control, with no outlet allowed in the sauna room. If 120 V is all the sauna can have, continue on 120V electric sauna heaters; for a different supply, go back to electric sauna heaters.

Read sauna electrical requirements before the circuit is planned. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.

Harvia and HUUM list every one of their 6 kW models here at 25 amps in total on 240 V, so at that output the amps do not decide between the two makers.

Before you choose an output, adjust your room's volume where its maker says so for glass, masonry and uninsulated or log walls: Harvia counts each square foot of uninsulated glass, glass block, brick, concrete or tile wall, a glass door included, as about 3.9 extra cubic feet and takes a solid-log room at 1.5 times its volume, while for a CLIFF, STEEL or HIVE, Mini versions included, HUUM's manuals put 3.3 cubic feet on the volume for every square foot of brick, tile or glass wall left without insulation. Choose the output from that adjusted volume, keep the rows whose maker's range takes it in, then pick between them on control and price.

240V sauna heater controls and the parts wired with them

A 240V sauna heater here either carries its own thermostat and timer or runs from a separate control, and with some makers the separate control brings more parts into the installation:

Thermostat and timer on the heater: start with the Vega Compact, The Wall, or the KIP or Cilindro Half in their built-in-control versions if you would rather not buy a separate control; Harvia's manuals put the thermostat and timer on these heaters.
Harvia with a separate control: choose the control Harvia or its US distributor names for the model, such as the Xenio CX170 that Bathing Brands lists as required for the KIP with separate control; in Harvia's manual the Virta Pro 16 kW runs from a Xenio CX45 on two circuits, with or without the LTY45 power extension, or from a CX30 or CX45 plus the LTY45 on four.
HUUM: plan the UKU control with the heater. HUUM's UKU manual asks for a dedicated circuit and allows its electrical work only by a licensed electrician, and the HIVE 12, 15 and 18 need HUUM's UKU Extension Box with the UKU, since HUUM rates the UKU alone for heaters up to 11 kW.
Saunum: choose a Saunum Air or Air L together with its Air IQ control: Saunum's US manuals say these heaters run only with it and must never be connected straight to mains power.
Amerec Junior: rule it out unless you can source its control yourself: Sauna360's manual wires the Junior on 240 V through a CB 16-1 contactor box to a SaunaLogic2 or H3 control, and Topture sells neither control.
App control: if you want to control the sauna from a phone app, choose a separate-control Harvia, HUUM or Saunum heater with its maker's Wi-Fi control, and compare them on sauna heaters with Wi-Fi control.
