120V Electric Sauna Heaters

120V electric sauna heaters come in two models here, one from Harvia and one from Amerec, which their makers size for sauna rooms from about 70 cubic feet up to 106 and 100 cubic feet respectively. Both are hardwired by a licensed electrician, not plugged in.

Room size for a 120V sauna heater

A 120V sauna heater is sized to the room's volume, and each maker here prints its heater's range: Harvia sizes the Vega Compact 1900 for 70.5–106 cubic feet, and Sauna360, Amerec's parent company, sizes the Junior 2.2 for 70–100 cubic feet. Work it out by multiplying the room's inside length, width and height in feet.

Harvia's sizing rule makes room for glass, masonry and uninsulated or log walls: count about 3.9 extra cubic feet per square foot of uninsulated wall, such as glass, glass block, brick, concrete or tile (a glass door counts), and multiply a solid-log sauna's volume by 1.5.

Harvia's Vega Compact manual gives the heat-up for a heater sized to its room: a properly insulated sauna reaches bathing temperature in about half an hour.

Match your room's volume in cubic feet to each heater's printed range, adding Harvia's allowance only when you check the Vega Compact:

70.5 to 100: both heaters' ranges cover the room. Sauna360 also sizes the Junior 2.2 for at least 8 sq ft of floor and walls 73½–84 inches high, so rule it out if your room falls outside those; otherwise choose on control and stones.
100 to 106: choose the Vega Compact 1900, the only heater here whose printed range reaches 106 cubic feet; Sauna360 sizes the Junior 2.2 to 100.
Under 70.5: rule out the Vega Compact 1900, whose range begins at 70.5 cubic feet; below 70, rule out both heaters here.
Over 106: rule out both 120V heaters here and size a heater for your room among electric sauna heaters.

120V sauna heater power: hardwiring and the 240V option

The two 120V sauna heaters here do not plug into an outlet. Harvia's manual says the Vega Compact 1900 must be permanently installed, hardwired with seal-tight conduit between the heater and the sauna wall, with no pigtails or plugs in the sauna room, and wired by a licensed electrician. Sauna360's manual approves the Junior 2.2 for permanent installation, wired by a licensed electrician, and no outlet or receptacle may be installed in the sauna room. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.

Decide by the supply your sauna room can have:

Only a 120 V circuit in reach: choose either heater here; Harvia and Sauna360 both list theirs for 120 V.
A 240 V circuit available: both heaters here can run on it too, at the lower amps their makers list for 240 V; that supply also opens the heaters that need 240 V, so compare those before you choose one of these two.
Rule out both heaters here if you meant to plug one into a wall outlet.

Controls and stones with each 120V sauna heater

The two 120V heaters here ship with different parts, and that difference decides what else you buy:

Choose the Vega Compact 1900 if you want the timer and thermostat on the heater itself, with no separate control to buy. Harvia documents no Wi-Fi control for it, and it ships without sauna stones, so add the Harvia stones its product page offers to the order.
Choose the Junior 2.2 if you want the control apart from the heater, or app control through Sauna360's optional Wi-Fi-enabled SaunaLogic2 and its SaunaLogic app, and will buy the control and contactor box separately: Sauna360's manual wires the Junior at 120 V through its CB 13-1 contactor box to a SaunaLogic2 (SL2) or H3 control. Topture's listing includes 25 lb of sauna stones with it.
Rule out the Junior 2.2 if you want every part for the heater from one Topture order: Topture sells neither the SL2 nor the H3 control it needs.
