Description

What is the Harvia KIP with built-in controls?

The Harvia KIP with built-in controls (KIP45B, KIP60B and KIP80B) is a wall-mounted stainless-steel electric sauna heater, with its thermostat and timer on the heater itself, so it needs no separate control unit. It comes in 4.5, 6 and 8 kW for sauna rooms of 100 to 425 cu ft on 240 V single-phase power, and holds 44 lb (20 kg) of 2–4" stones behind a protective stone guard.

How do the Harvia KIP's built-in controls work?

The Harvia KIP with built-in controls has two dials on the lower front of the heater: a thermostat on the left and a timer on the right. The timer switches the heater on for 1 hour; its small numbers, 1 to 8, delay the start by that many hours, after which the heater runs for 1 hour. The heater does not heat while the thermostat is at its minimum. Harvia counts the sauna's heat-up time inside that hour, so you turn the timer back to 1 when you go in if you want longer. The heater has no Wi-Fi and no app.

Key features of the Harvia KIP with built-in controls

  • Wall-mounted on two lag screws, with a protective stone guard
  • Stainless-steel casing with dual-wall construction (Harvia)
  • Thermostat and 1-hour timer dials on the heater, with a delayed start of up to 8 hours
  • 44 lb (20 kg) of 2–4" split-face stones: one box of Harvia AC3000
  • 4.5, 6 and 8 kW on 240 V single-phase power
  • c-UL-us listed; complies with UL 875

The same heater without dials is the Harvia KIP with separate control, which runs from a Xenio wall control. The KIP with built-in controls also comes as a graphite-black KIP with built-in controls in 6 and 8 kW, and with a box of AC3000 stones included it is sold as the KIP 4.5 kW, KIP 6 kW and KIP 8 kW packages with built-in controls. The Harvia KIP collection has every KIP heater and package.

Specifications

Which size Harvia KIP with built-in controls fits my sauna?

Choose the Harvia KIP with built-in controls by the volume of your sauna room. Harvia's manual adds 1.2 m³ for every square meter of uninsulated brick, glass block, glass, concrete or tile wall, about 3.9 cu ft per sq ft, and a glass door counts: its example is a 10 m³ room with a glass door, which needs the output of a 12 m³ room. Multiply the volume of a solid-log sauna by 1.5.

Installation

How is the Harvia KIP with built-in controls installed?

The Harvia KIP with built-in controls mounts on the sauna wall on two supplied lag screws, with its bottom 7–12" (178–305 mm) above the floor. Harvia does not allow it in a wall recess, and a sauna room takes only one electric heater. The supply cable runs from the breaker to the heater's own electric box, so there is no separate control unit to place; the temperature sensor, packed inside that electric box, mounts on the sauna wall near the heater under its supplied cover. Harvia's KIP manual says only a qualified electrician may do the electrical work. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code. Harvia's installation manual, under Documents, gives the exact screw, sensor and wiring positions.

Harvia KIP with built-in controls safety distances

Keep at least these distances between the Harvia KIP with built-in controls and walls, benches and anything that can burn.

Harvia KIP with built-in controls minimum distances by output (Harvia KIP manual Y05-1516 B, §5.3 and §6.4)
4.5 kW 6 kW 8 kW
Heater side to side wall 3" (75 mm) 4" (100 mm) 5" (125 mm)
Heater to upper bench (horizontal) 3" (75 mm) 4" (100 mm) 5" (125 mm)
Harvia KIP with built-in controls, every output (Harvia KIP manual Y05-1516 B, §5.1 and §6.4)
Non-metallic guard rail, front and sides Required, at least 2" (50 mm) from the heater: the caution label on the heater says one shall be installed
Lower bench beside the heater At least 2" (50 mm) from the heater front, if the bench top is at least 1" (25 mm) below the top of the heater
Wall to front of the lower bench At least 13" (329 mm)
Top of the heater to the ceiling At least 43.3" (1,100 mm)
Bottom of the heater to the floor 7–12" (178–305 mm)
Sauna room height At least 75" (USA) or 78" (Canada); ceiling no higher than 90"

Does the sauna room need ventilation?

Yes. Harvia's KIP manual calls for six air changes an hour, through a supply-air vent and a mandatory exhaust vent near the floor; the manual gives their positions and sizes.

Great Workhorse, but Be Mindful of the Controls.
This is a solid, reliable heater that has never given us a moment of trouble. The stainless steel construction looks great and feels durable. It heats our medium-sized barrel sauna efficiently, even in cold weather. The built-in time and temp controls are easy to use; the delay start is a major plus for planning sessions.

My one small critique is the placement of the dials: they're located low on the unit, so you have to lean way down to adjust them. If you prefer adjusting the heat while you're sitting, you might consider an external control model. But if you value reliability and want to save money by avoiding a separate control unit, the KIP with built-ins is a fantastic choice.

Thanks for the thoughtful review of the Harvia KIP! We are glad to hear it’s been a great experience for you and that the delay start is a win. Enjoy those sauna sessions!

The Gold Standard for Dependable Electric Heat.
After researching dozens of heaters for my DIY sauna build, I settled on the Harvia KIP 8kW, and it was the easiest part of the installation. The wiring was straightforward, and the heater itself is a tank. It delivers a fast, powerful heat that perfectly suits a dry-style sauna session.

I mainly bought this unit for the simplicity of the built-in controls. Fewer things to wire, fewer things to break. The 60-minute auto-shutoff timer is a critical safety feature, and the 8-hour pre-set timer makes my routine effortless. If you want a top-rated, traditional Finnish heater that focuses purely on performance without the digital bells and whistles, this is it. Reliable, durable, and UL-certified.

Awesome to hear the DIY install was a breeze and the built-in controls gave you the simplicity you wanted. Enjoy every session with your Harvia KIP!

Best Heater for a Home Sauna - Simple and Gets Hot Fast.
You can't beat the KIP for value and function. We have the 6kW model in our modest 7x7 indoor sauna, and it performs perfectly. The built-in controls are exactly what we wanted. No fancy external controller, no confusing settings. Just two dials: one for temperature, and one for the timer/preset. I love that I can set the delay timer in the morning and have the sauna hot and waiting for me after work. It heats up quickly (under 45 minutes to 170°F). It may not hold as many stones as some fancy column heaters, but the steam is satisfying, and the heat is intense. It's a proven design that simply works.

Love hearing this! You nailed the best part of the Harvia KIP: simple built-in controls that heat up fast and reliably, so your sauna’s ready right when you are. Enjoy those post‑work sessions!

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes with the Harvia KIP with built-in controls, and what else does it need?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls ships as the heater with its temperature sensor, packed inside the heater's electric box, a wall cover and trim pieces for the sensor wire, mounting screws, two warning signs for the sauna and Harvia's installation manual. Its thermostat and timer are on the heater, so it needs no separate control unit. It does need 44 lb of 2–4 in split-face stones (one box of Harvia AC3000, sold separately), a circuit installed by a licensed electrician and a non-metallic guard rail. The KIP packages with built-in controls include the stones.
What size Harvia KIP with built-in controls does my sauna need?
Choose the Harvia KIP with built-in controls by the volume of the sauna room: Harvia's KIP manual gives 100–210 cu ft for the 4.5 kW, 170–300 cu ft for the 6 kW and 250–425 cu ft for the 8 kW. Harvia adds 1.2 m³ for every square meter of uninsulated brick, glass, concrete or tile wall, about 3.9 cu ft per sq ft, and counts a glass door; a solid-log sauna's volume is multiplied by 1.5. The room must be at least 75 in tall in the US (78 in in Canada) and no more than 90 in.
What electrical supply does the Harvia KIP with built-in controls need?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls runs on 240 V single-phase power. Harvia's KIP manual lists 18.8 amps for the 4.5 kW, 25.0 amps for the 6 kW and 33.3 amps for the 8 kW at 240 V. The supply cable runs from the breaker to the heater's own electric box, and Harvia's manual says only a qualified electrician may do the electrical work. For 208 V three-phase power, Topture sells the KIP with separate control and a Xenio CX170-U3-15-XW control instead. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.
How do the thermostat and timer on the Harvia KIP with built-in controls work?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls has two dials on its lower front: a thermostat on the left and a timer on the right. Turning the timer to 1 runs the heater for 1 hour, and the small numbers 1 to 8 delay the start by that many hours, after which it runs for 1 hour; turn the timer back to 1 when you go in if you want longer. The heater does not heat while the thermostat is at its minimum. It has no Wi-Fi, no app and no temperature display: you turn the thermostat down if the sauna gets hotter than you like.
How is the Harvia KIP with built-in controls installed?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls mounts on the sauna wall on two supplied lag screws, with its bottom 7–12 in above the floor; Harvia does not allow it in a wall recess, and only one electric heater may go in a sauna room. Keep 3, 4 or 5 in, by output, to the side wall and the upper bench and 43.3 in to the ceiling, and install the non-metallic guard rail Harvia requires, at least 2 in from the heater. The temperature sensor mounts on the wall near the heater under its supplied cover; Harvia's manual gives the exact positions.
How long does the Harvia KIP with built-in controls take to heat up?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls takes 30–60 minutes to heat the sauna, according to Harvia's KIP manual, and that time counts inside the heater's 1-hour timer, so turn the timer dial back to 1 when you go in if you need longer. Harvia's troubleshooting says slow heating calls for checking that the elements glow, that the thermostat is set high enough, that the heater is powerful enough for the room, and that the ventilation is right. Uninsulated brick, glass or tile walls raise the output a room needs. Before the first sauna, run the heater for 5 minutes with the door open to burn off the coating on the elements.
How do you load and maintain the stones in the Harvia KIP with built-in controls?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls takes 44 lb (20 kg) of 2–4 in split-face stones, which one box of Harvia AC3000 covers; Harvia names peridotite, olivine diabase, olivine or vulcanite. Harvia's manual says to put the stones in by hand, one by one, so that no heating element shows between or below them, because bare elements are a fire hazard. Check the stones at least once a year, remove debris and broken stones, and replace them all every two years, or sooner with heavy use. Throw only clean water onto the stones; chlorinated water and sea water are prohibited.
What problems can happen with the Harvia KIP with built-in controls, and how are they avoided?
Most problems Harvia's KIP manual covers for the Harvia KIP with built-in controls come down to settings, installation and stones. If it will not heat, check the breaker, that the thermostat is turned up from its minimum and the timer dial is set, and the overheat protector, which resets with a button in the heater's electric box once the heater is cool and the breaker is off. Slow heating calls for checking that the elements glow, that the thermostat is set high enough and that the ventilation is right. Panels that darken quickly mean the safety distances are too short or elements show through the stones. Odor during the first uses is normal, and occasional bangs are stones cracking in the heat.
Who makes the Harvia KIP with built-in controls, and what is it made of?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls is made by Harvia, the Finnish sauna manufacturer. It has a stainless-steel casing with a protective stone guard and dual-wall construction, with its thermostat and timer dials on the lower front; a graphite-black version is also sold in 6 and 8 kW. The KIP is c-UL-us listed and complies with UL 875. On Harvia's installation drawing it measures 17 in wide, 11 in deep and 25 in high, and Harvia gives net weights of 30, 30.8 and 31.5 lb for the 4.5, 6 and 8 kW.
What warranty does the Harvia KIP with built-in controls have?
Harvia's manufacturer warranty covers the Harvia KIP with built-in controls for 2 years, and Harvia adds a third year when the heater is registered on harvia.com within 30 days of purchase. Sauna stones are not covered, and Harvia's terms require the heater to be installed by a qualified electrician, with proof of the installation. Harvia US Inc. is the warrantor in North America; Topture is an authorized Harvia retailer and assists with troubleshooting and warranty coordination.
How does the Harvia KIP with built-in controls compare with the KIP with separate control?
The Harvia KIP with built-in controls has a thermostat dial and a timer dial on the heater and no Wi-Fi, while the KIP with separate control is run from a Harvia Xenio CX170 wall panel with Wi-Fi, sold separately. Both come in 4.5, 6 and 8 kW for rooms of 100–425 cu ft and take 44 lb of stones. The built-in timer runs for an hour and can delay the start by up to 8 hours; the Xenio sets a temperature from 104 to 194°F, can delay a start by up to 12 hours and connects to the MyHarvia app. Only the separate-control KIP comes in 208 V three-phase at Topture.
Where can you buy the Harvia KIP with built-in controls from an authorized dealer?
Topture is an authorized Harvia retailer and sells the Harvia KIP with built-in controls in 4.5, 6 and 8 kW for 240 V, with a box of AC3000 stones as an option, or as KIP packages that combine the heater and the stones. Topture adds Lifetime Expert Support, help with troubleshooting and warranty coordination, free shipping on orders over $200 within the continental US, financing through Shop Pay Installments at checkout, and a 30-day return window.
What does a Harvia KIP with built-in controls cost in total, delivered?
The delivered cost of a Harvia KIP with built-in controls from Topture is the heater price plus one 44 lb box of AC3000 stones; it needs no separate control. Topture has free shipping on orders over $200 within the continental US, so a KIP order ships free there. Budget separately for a licensed electrician and a non-metallic guard rail. Compare delivered totals, because some listings price the heater without its stones. Financing is available through Shop Pay Installments at checkout.

General Topture Questions

Where are you located, and where do you ship from?

Topture is an online retailer serving customers in the contiguous United States. The company is Topture LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company, and its registered business address is 30 N Gould St, Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Orders ship from manufacturer and distributor warehouses in the U.S. and Canada, and some products ship directly from the manufacturer in Europe. Each product page shows its estimated delivery time.

How much is shipping?

Orders over $200 ship free within the continental United States. Orders under $200 carry a small shipping fee.

Two exceptions: SaunaLife and ThermaSol products carry a freight charge at any order value, and sauna stones ordered without a heater ship at $60 per box because of their weight.

Every charge is shown at checkout before you pay.

Do you provide financing?

Absolutely! To view your financing offer, simply select Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at Step 3 of checkout.

You'll need to enter a debit card to receive your offer, but don’t worry—you can still back out before completing the purchase.

How long will it take for my items to arrive?

If your order is in stock, most orders ship within 2–7 business days of purchase. Transit time then depends on the distance from the warehouse and, for freight, on booking a delivery appointment.

For custom, pre-order or made-to-order items, the estimated delivery time frame is listed on the product page. Delivery dates are estimates, so please don't book installation labor until your order has arrived and been inspected.

What happens after I place my order?

As soon as you place your order, you'll receive a confirmation email with your order details—be sure to keep it for your records. Once your order ships, you'll receive another email with tracking information.

For freight deliveries, the carrier will call or text you to schedule an appointment once the shipment reaches their local terminal. Someone needs to be there to inspect the shipment and sign for it. Smaller parcels arrive by UPS or FedEx without an appointment.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Products purchased through Topture include the applicable manufacturer’s warranty, subject to the manufacturer’s terms. You’ll find the warranty details for each product under the "Warranty" tab on its product page, and we help with troubleshooting and warranty coordination if an issue comes up.

Do you have a showroom?

We don’t have a showroom — we sell online. Our team is available by phone, email and chat to help you compare models, sizes and heaters, and we can send dimensions, installation manuals and electrical requirements before you buy.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver throughout the 48 contiguous states, with curbside freight delivery for large items. Free shipping and standard rates apply there only. Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other U.S. islands and Canada are quoted separately, depending on the brand and model. We can't ship freight or oversized items to P.O. boxes.

Do you ship internationally?
