Description

What is the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control?

The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control (KIP60W and KIP80W) is a wall-mounted electric sauna heater with a graphite-black casing and no controls of its own: it runs from a Harvia Xenio CX170-U1-15-XW control, sold separately. It comes in 6 and 8 kW for sauna rooms of 170 to 425 cu ft on 240 V single-phase power, and holds 44 lb (20 kg) of 2–4" stones behind a protective stone guard.

Which control does the black Harvia KIP need?

The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control needs a Harvia Xenio CX170 control, the CX170-U1-15-XW for 240 V single-phase. Harvia's KIP manual says the control is purchased separately and brings the power unit and temperature sensor with it. The CX170-U1-15-XW has Wi-Fi for Harvia's MyHarvia app; the Xenio can be set from 104 to 194°F (40–90°C), runs the heater for up to 1 hour per start and can delay a start by up to 12 hours. An older plain CX170-U1 is limited to 7 kW on one supply circuit, too little for the 8 kW KIP; the CX170-U1-15-XW handles up to 10.5 kW that way. Topture offers the black KIP only with the Xenio CX170; Harvia's Fenix controls are not offered for it.

Black Harvia KIP key features

  • Wall-mounted on two lag screws, with a protective stone guard
  • Graphite-black casing with dual-wall construction (Harvia)
  • 44 lb (20 kg) of 2–4" split-face stones: one box of Harvia AC3000
  • 6 or 8 kW on 240 V single-phase power
  • Runs from a Harvia Xenio CX170-U1-15-XW control with Wi-Fi, sold separately
  • c-UL-us listed; complies with UL 875

The same heater in stainless steel is the Harvia KIP with separate control, which also comes in 4.5 kW and for 208 V three-phase power. With thermostat and timer dials on the heater instead of a wall control, it is the graphite-black KIP with built-in controls. The Harvia KIP collection has every KIP heater and package.

Specifications

Which black Harvia KIP size fits my sauna?

Choose the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control by the volume of your sauna room. Harvia's manual adds 1.2 m³ for every square meter of uninsulated brick, glass block, glass, concrete or tile wall, about 3.9 cu ft per sq ft, and a glass door counts: its example is a 10 m³ room with a glass door, which needs the output of a 12 m³ room. Multiply the volume of a solid-log sauna by 1.5.

Installation

How is the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control installed?

The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control mounts on the sauna wall on two supplied lag screws, with its bottom 7–12" (178–305 mm) above the floor. Harvia does not allow it in a wall recess, and a sauna room takes only one electric heater. The Xenio control's power unit goes on a wall outside the sauna room, and its temperature sensor on the wall above the heater. Harvia's KIP manual says only a qualified electrician may do the electrical work. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code. Harvia's installation manual, under Documents, gives the exact screw, sensor and wiring positions.

Graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control safety distances

Keep at least these distances between the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control and walls, benches and anything that can burn.

6 kW 8 kW
Heater side to side wall 4" (100 mm) 5" (125 mm)
Heater to upper bench (horizontal) 4" (100 mm) 5" (125 mm)

Non-metallic guard rail, front and sides Required, at least 2" (50 mm) from the heater: the caution label on the heater says one shall be installed
Lower bench beside the heater At least 2" (50 mm) from the heater front, if the bench top is at least 1" (25 mm) below the top of the heater
Wall to front of the lower bench At least 13" (329 mm)
Top of the heater to the ceiling At least 43.3" (1,100 mm)
Bottom of the heater to the floor 7–12" (178–305 mm)
Sauna room height At least 75" (USA) or 78" (Canada); ceiling no higher than 90"

Does the sauna room need ventilation?

Yes. Harvia's KIP manual calls for six air changes an hour, through a supply-air vent and a mandatory exhaust vent near the floor; the manual gives their positions and sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes with the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control, and what else does it need to run?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control ships as the heater with its mounting screws, two warning signs for the sauna and Harvia's installation manual. It does not run on its own: Harvia's KIP manual says the control unit is purchased separately and brings the power unit and temperature sensor with it, and for this 240 V heater that is the Harvia Xenio CX170-U1-15-XW. The heater also needs 44 lb of 2–4 in split-face stones (one box of Harvia AC3000), a circuit installed by a licensed electrician and a non-metallic guard rail. The control and stones are sold separately.
Which control does the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control need?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control needs a Harvia Xenio CX170-U1-15-XW, the 240 V single-phase Xenio with Wi-Fi for Harvia's MyHarvia app. The Xenio can be set from 104 to 194°F (40–90°C), runs the heater for up to 1 hour per start and can delay a start by up to 12 hours. An older plain CX170-U1 is limited to 7 kW on one supply circuit, too little for the 8 kW KIP. Topture offers the black KIP only with the Xenio CX170, not with Harvia's Fenix controls.
What size graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control does my sauna need?
Choose the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control by the volume of the sauna room: Harvia's KIP manual gives 170–300 cu ft for the 6 kW and 250–425 cu ft for the 8 kW. Harvia adds 1.2 m³ for every square meter of uninsulated brick, glass, concrete or tile wall, about 3.9 cu ft per sq ft, and counts a glass door; a solid-log sauna's volume is multiplied by 1.5. The room must be at least 75 in tall in the US (78 in in Canada) and no more than 90 in. Rooms under 170 cu ft suit the 4.5 kW, which Topture sells in stainless steel.
What electrical supply does the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control need?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control runs on 240 V single-phase power. Harvia's KIP manual lists 25.0 amps for the 6 kW and 33.3 amps for the 8 kW at 240 V. The heater is wired through the Xenio control's power unit, and Harvia's manual says only a qualified electrician may do the electrical work. For 208 V three-phase power, Topture sells the stainless KIP with separate control. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.
How is the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control installed?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control mounts on the sauna wall on two supplied lag screws, with its bottom 7–12 in above the floor; Harvia does not allow it in a wall recess, and only one electric heater may go in a sauna room. Keep 4 or 5 in, by output, to the side wall and the upper bench and 43.3 in to the ceiling, and install the non-metallic guard rail Harvia requires, at least 2 in from the heater. The Xenio's power unit goes outside the sauna room and its temperature sensor above the heater; Harvia's manual gives the exact positions.
How long does the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control take to heat up?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control takes 30–60 minutes to heat the sauna, according to Harvia's KIP manual, and that time counts inside the Xenio control's 1-hour heating time, so restart the heating from the panel when you go in if you need longer. Harvia's troubleshooting says slow heating calls for checking that the elements glow, that the heater is powerful enough for the room, and that the ventilation is right. Uninsulated brick, glass or tile walls raise the output a room needs. Before the first sauna, run the heater for 5 minutes with the door open to burn off the coating on the elements.
How do you load and maintain the stones in the graphite-black Harvia KIP?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control takes 44 lb (20 kg) of 2–4 in split-face stones, which one box of Harvia AC3000 covers; Harvia names peridotite, olivine diabase, olivine or vulcanite. Harvia's manual says to put the stones in by hand, one by one, so that no heating element shows between or below them, because bare elements are a fire hazard. Check the stones at least once a year, remove debris and broken stones, and replace them all every two years, or sooner with heavy use. Throw only clean water onto the stones; chlorinated water and sea water are prohibited.
What problems do graphite-black Harvia KIP owners run into, and how are they avoided?
Most problems Harvia's KIP manual covers for the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control come down to settings, installation and stones. If it will not heat, check the breaker, the time and temperature set on the Xenio, and the overheat protector, which resets with a button in the heater's electric box once the heater is cool and the breaker is off. Slow heating calls for checking that the elements glow and that the ventilation is right. Panels that darken quickly mean the safety distances are too short or elements show through the stones. Odor during the first uses is normal, and occasional bangs are stones cracking in the heat.
Who makes the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control, and what is it made of?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control is made by Harvia, the Finnish sauna manufacturer. It has a graphite-black casing with a protective stone guard and dual-wall construction, and no dials of its own. The KIP is c-UL-us listed and complies with UL 875. On Harvia's installation drawing it measures 17 in wide, 11 in deep and 25 in high, and Harvia gives net weights of 29.7 lb for the 6 kW and 30.4 lb for the 8 kW.
What warranty does the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control have?
Harvia's manufacturer warranty covers the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control for 2 years, and Harvia adds a third year when the heater is registered on harvia.com within 30 days of purchase. The Xenio control has its own 2-year manufacturer warranty, with no registration year. Sauna stones are not covered, and Harvia's terms require the heater to be installed by a qualified electrician, with proof of the installation. Harvia US Inc. is the warrantor in North America; Topture is an authorized Harvia retailer and assists with troubleshooting and warranty coordination.
How does the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control compare with the stainless KIP?
The graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control is the same heater as the stainless KIP with separate control in a black casing: the same Xenio CX170 control, 44 lb stone load, room ranges, amps and safety distances. The black version comes in 6 and 8 kW for 240 V single-phase; the stainless one also comes in 4.5 kW and in 208 V three-phase models, and is sold in packages with the Xenio control and stones. Both are c-UL-us listed to UL 875 and carry the same Harvia warranty.
Where can you buy the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control from an authorized dealer?
Topture is an authorized Harvia retailer and sells the graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control in 6 and 8 kW for 240 V, with the Xenio CX170-U1-15-XW control and AC3000 stones as options, as well as the stainless KIP heaters and KIP packages. Topture adds Lifetime Expert Support, help with troubleshooting and warranty coordination, free shipping on orders over $200 within the continental US, financing through Shop Pay Installments at checkout, and a 30-day return window.
What does a graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control cost in total, delivered?
The delivered cost of a graphite-black Harvia KIP with separate control from Topture is the heater price plus the parts it needs to run: a Harvia Xenio CX170-U1-15-XW control and one 44 lb box of AC3000 stones. Topture has free shipping on orders over $200 within the continental US, so a KIP order ships free there. Budget separately for a licensed electrician and a non-metallic guard rail. Compare delivered totals, because some listings price the heater without its control. Financing is available through Shop Pay Installments at checkout.

General Topture Questions

Where are you located, and where do you ship from?

Topture is an online retailer serving customers in the contiguous United States. The company is Topture LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company, and its registered business address is 30 N Gould St, Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801.

Orders ship from manufacturer and distributor warehouses in the U.S. and Canada, and some products ship directly from the manufacturer in Europe. Each product page shows its estimated delivery time.

How much is shipping?

Orders over $200 ship free within the continental United States. Orders under $200 carry a small shipping fee.

Two exceptions: SaunaLife and ThermaSol products carry a freight charge at any order value, and sauna stones ordered without a heater ship at $60 per box because of their weight.

Every charge is shown at checkout before you pay.

Do you provide financing?

Absolutely! To view your financing offer, simply select Shop Pay Installments as your payment method at Step 3 of checkout.

You'll need to enter a debit card to receive your offer, but don’t worry—you can still back out before completing the purchase.

How long will it take for my items to arrive?

If your order is in stock, most orders ship within 2–7 business days of purchase. Transit time then depends on the distance from the warehouse and, for freight, on booking a delivery appointment.

For custom, pre-order or made-to-order items, the estimated delivery time frame is listed on the product page. Delivery dates are estimates, so please don't book installation labor until your order has arrived and been inspected.

What happens after I place my order?

As soon as you place your order, you'll receive a confirmation email with your order details—be sure to keep it for your records. Once your order ships, you'll receive another email with tracking information.

For freight deliveries, the carrier will call or text you to schedule an appointment once the shipment reaches their local terminal. Someone needs to be there to inspect the shipment and sign for it. Smaller parcels arrive by UPS or FedEx without an appointment.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Products purchased through Topture include the applicable manufacturer’s warranty, subject to the manufacturer’s terms. You’ll find the warranty details for each product under the "Warranty" tab on its product page, and we help with troubleshooting and warranty coordination if an issue comes up.

Do you have a showroom?

We don’t have a showroom — we sell online. Our team is available by phone, email and chat to help you compare models, sizes and heaters, and we can send dimensions, installation manuals and electrical requirements before you buy.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver throughout the 48 contiguous states, with curbside freight delivery for large items. Free shipping and standard rates apply there only. Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, other U.S. islands and Canada are quoted separately, depending on the brand and model. We can't ship freight or oversized items to P.O. boxes.

Do you ship internationally?
