The Harvia Spirit SP90E is a 9 kW wall-mounted electric sauna heater for sauna rooms of 177–494 cu ft, on 240 V single-phase power. It has a black steel body and a curved steel grid that holds about 110 lb (50 kg) of rounded stones, and it has no controls of its own: it runs from a separate Harvia Xenio or Fenix control, sold separately.

Which control does the Harvia Spirit SP90E need?

The Harvia Spirit SP90E needs a separate Harvia control. Harvia's Spirit manual lists the Xenio CX30 and CX45 control units; the controls sold for the SP90E are the Harvia Xenio CX45-U1-U3-XW and the Harvia Fenix FX45-U1-U3-XC, each sold separately. The CX45 runs 9 kW on one supply circuit; a CX30, rated 7 kW on one circuit, would need two separate supply circuits. Does the Harvia Spirit SP90E fit my sauna?

The Harvia Spirit SP90E heats sauna rooms of 177–494 cu ft (5–14 m³), with 28–79 sq ft of floor. Harvia's manual adds 1.2 m³ for every square meter of uninsulated brick, glass block, glass, concrete or tile wall, about 3.9 cu ft per sq ft, and a glass door counts: its example is a 10 m³ room with a glass door, which needs the output of a 12 m³ room. Multiply the volume of a solid-log sauna by 1.5. The room must be at least 75" (1,900 mm) tall.

Installation

How is the Harvia Spirit SP90E installed?

The Harvia Spirit SP90E hangs on the sauna wall on its supplied wall-mounting bracket, with the bottom of the heater 4–12" (100–300 mm) above the floor. A sauna room takes only one electric heater, and the floor under it should be heat-resistant, because hot pieces of stone can damage a floor covering. The control's power unit goes on a wall outside the sauna room, in a dry place above 32°F (0°C), and the temperature sensor that comes with the heater goes where the manual shows. Harvia's Spirit manual says only a licensed electrician may connect the heater, permanently, with no plug in the sauna room. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code. Harvia's installation manual, under Documents, gives the exact bracket, sensor and wiring positions.

Does the sauna room need ventilation?

Yes. Harvia's Spirit manual calls for six air changes an hour, through a supply-air vent and an exhaust vent close to the floor, as far from the heater as possible; the manual gives their positions and sizes.

If your order is in stock, most orders ship within 2–7 business days of purchase. Transit time then depends on the distance from the warehouse and, for freight, on booking a delivery appointment.
