Why HUUM

HUUM is an Estonian sauna heater manufacturer. Its DROP heater was developed with the Estonian Academy of Arts, entered production in 2012 and won a Red Dot award in 2015, and HUUM still designs its heaters to be seen — hardware you'd actually want to look at for 45 minutes.

The real differentiator isn't aesthetics, though. It's stone capacity. A compact wall heater wraps its elements in a small basket of rocks — Harvia's KIP, for example, takes 44 lbs. HUUM builds the heater around the stones: the DROP holds 121 lbs, the CLIFF holds 165 lbs, and the flagship HIVE takes up to 551 lbs. The HIVE's load is about twelve times the KIP's.

More stones means softer heat, steamier löyly, and a recovery time that doesn't fall off a cliff after you throw water. It's the reason HUUM heaters feel more like a Finnish public sauna than a home unit — a "warm misty hug" instead of the dry blast most electric heaters produce.

Where Can You Buy a HUUM Sauna Heater?

The HUUM Electric Lineup

HUUM DROP (4.5kW / 6kW / 7.5kW / 9kW) — The flagship wall-mounted heater. A curved teardrop profile with 121 lbs of stone capacity. Covers rooms from 106 to 460 cu ft depending on the kW rating. The 6kW and 7.5kW are the most popular sizes for indoor 2–4 person saunas. The 9kW handles full-size outdoor cabins.

HUUM CLIFF (6kW / 9kW / 10.5kW) — The freestanding version. An angular pillar design with 165 lbs of stone capacity — about a third more than the DROP. If you want a sauna that delivers serious löyly in a 5–6 person room, the CLIFF 9kW or 10.5kW is the call. Stone-to-power ratio is higher than anything in the Harvia lineup.

HUUM CLIFF Mini (3.5kW) — The smallest HUUM available. 120+ lbs of stones in a compact footprint for sub-200 cu ft rooms. This is what you buy for a one-person home sauna or closet-size build where most other brands won't sell you anything that actually delivers steam.

HUUM HIVE Series (12kW / 15kW / 18kW) — The big-room monster. Up to 551 lbs of stone capacity. Handles rooms from 424 to 989 cu ft. This is the heater for commercial spa installs, large outdoor cabins, and oversized custom builds.

HUUM HIVE Mini (6kW / 9kW / 10.5kW) — The HIVE's smaller sibling. Same cylindrical cage design, 330 lbs of stone capacity, fits mid-size rooms up to 566 cu ft. Our pick for buyers who want the HIVE look in a 4-person sauna.

HIVE Flow: HUUM's Wood-Burning Option

HUUM's range is mainly electric, but if you're building a rural cabin or want off-grid capability, the HIVE Flow wood stove (9.8kW) brings the same stone-heavy design philosophy to a wood-fired unit. The HIVE Flow Mini (8.5kW) fits smaller rooms. Both take the same oversized stones HUUM's electric line uses and deliver noticeably softer, more humid heat than traditional metal-box wood stoves.

The UKU Controller System

Every HUUM heater requires a separate UKU controller — HUUM deliberately decoupled the brain from the heater so you can choose your interface. Three versions:

• UKU Local (Black / White / Wood): Wall-mounted panel. Wired connection, no WiFi. For buyers who don't want their sauna on the internet. Includes timer and temperature control.
• UKU WiFi (Black / White / Wood): Adds phone app control via the HUUM app. Start the sauna from anywhere, schedule recurring sessions, monitor heater status. Same physical panel, with a WiFi module inside.
• UKU WiFi Glass / UKU WiFi Mirror: The premium versions. A minimalist glass or mirrored front panel — so the controller blends into a modern bathroom wall instead of announcing itself. Functionally identical to the standard WiFi unit.

Heaters over 11kW need the UKU Extension Box (contactor) to handle the higher amperage draw. This is included in the bundled packages but sold separately otherwise.

Stones, Rails, and Accessories

HUUM stones come in two sizes: 1–2" (Stones 12) for the CLIFF, CLIFF Mini, STEEL and STEEL Mini, and 2–4" (Stones 24) for the DROP, HIVE, HIVE Mini and the wood stoves. A DROP needs 4 boxes (4 x 33 lbs = 132 lbs for a 122-lb basket). A CLIFF needs 5 boxes (165 lbs). A HIVE Mini needs 10 boxes (330 lbs) and a full HIVE 16 boxes (for a basket rated at 551 lbs). Safety rails (Rail D, Rail C, Rail H, Rail HM) are optional but recommended — they keep benches and bodies at a safe distance from the outer surface. Embedding flanges let you drop a DROP, CLIFF, or HIVE into a custom bench for a flush-mount install. All of these are in the HUUM accessories section.

Bundled Packages vs. À La Carte

We sell HUUM heaters two ways: individual heater + separate controller + separate stones, or bundled packages. The bundles aren't a gimmick — they're configured the way HUUM's own technical team would spec a home sauna. A HUUM DROP 6kW Package includes the heater, the UKU controller of your choice, and 4 boxes of stones. Bundles for the DROP, CLIFF, CLIFF Mini, HIVE, and HIVE Mini are all available.

If you're already set on the HIVE with a specific controller color, the bundle is the same price as buying the parts on their own — it just adds them in one step. If you want to mix and match — say, the DROP heater with the UKU Mirror controller — buy individually.

Sizing a HUUM for Your Room

Choose the HUUM model whose rated room-volume range includes your sauna's volume, after adding an allowance for glass, stone or other uninsulated surfaces — HUUM's DROP manual adds 3.3 cu ft for every square foot of such surface. Check our electrical requirements guide before ordering — a 10.5kW CLIFF needs a dedicated circuit, not something you can pull off a shared breaker.

Current draw can be estimated from heater output and voltage, but breaker size, conductor size and circuit configuration must be taken from the installation manual for the specific heater. Two heaters with the same kW rating can have different electrical requirements. Every Topture heater page lists the manufacturer specifications for that model.
