Mesa is the volume leader in the sub-$5,000 steam shower category in North America. Italian-designed, manufactured for the US and Canadian market, and built around a consistent spec: 3kW steam generator, tempered safety glass, chrome fixtures, 6 acupuncture body jets, overhead rainhead (on walk-ins and combos), handheld shower, FM radio with speakers, aromatherapy reservoir, and LED chromotherapy lighting. That feature set is standard across the entire WS series — you don't pay extra for rainhead, body jets, or aromatherapy the way you do with tiled-in custom builds.
The design language is consistent too: white or gray acrylic back panels, clear or blue-tinted tempered glass, chrome hardware, and a black control panel with backlit buttons. If you've seen one Mesa in person, you know what to expect from the rest.
The WS series splits into four groups by shape and function. All specs below are for the standard 3kW generator; dimensions vary by model.
Corner units (300-series and 9090): Pentagon footprint, two glass walls, designed for a 90-degree bathroom corner. The most space-efficient option and the lowest price point in the line. The WS-9090K/WS-9090C is the entry corner unit with clear or blue glass. The WS-300/WS-300A, WS-301/WS-301A, and WS-302/WS-302A are the 300-series corner steam showers — each with slightly different door and interior configurations but shared dimensions and features. If you have a small bathroom with a spare corner, these are the default choice.
Walk-in rectangular units (500 and 800-series): Straight back wall, single-panel or bypass glass front, flat-wall installation. The Mesa 500XL is a dedicated walk-in with white and gray interior options. The WS-801L/WS-801A and WS-803L/WS-803A are larger walk-ins with deeper footprints. The Mesa 802L ships in left-handed and right-handed orientations — confirm your plumbing side before ordering. Walk-ins give you more headroom and elbow space inside the cabin.
Tub combos (500, 600, 700, 800, 900-series): A full steam cabin with an integrated whirlpool or air-jet tub inside the footprint. The WS-501 Yukon is the entry combo; the WS-608A/WS-608P, WS-609A/WS-609P, WS-701A, WS-702A, WS-807A, and WS-905 (left/right configurations) all pair steam with a jetted soak. See the steam shower tub combo collection for the full combo lineup with specs.
3kW steam generator: This is the Mesa standard across the line. 3kW is enough to fill the typical WS cabin (roughly 40–55 cubic feet) in 5–8 minutes. The generator sits in a dedicated compartment behind the back wall and is serviceable by removing an access panel. Most Mesa units auto-shut after 20 minutes per safety standards — restart if you want a longer session.
Tempered safety glass: Mesa uses 5mm tempered glass on corner units and 6mm on walk-ins and combos. Tempered means the glass is heat-treated so it shatters into small, blunt pieces if it ever breaks — a safety requirement on all shower enclosures. Available in clear or blue tint. Blue adds privacy and mutes the visual footprint in the bathroom; clear keeps the space feeling open.
Body jets: Six acupuncture-style body jets arranged vertically down the back wall at shoulder, mid-back, and lumbar height. They run on the same water supply as the shower, so usage alternates with the rainhead rather than running simultaneously.
Rainhead and handheld: Walk-ins and combos include a ceiling-mounted rainhead plus a handheld on a slide bar. Most corner units include only the handheld to preserve headroom.
FM radio, aromatherapy, chromotherapy: Built-in FM tuner with speakers mounted in the ceiling. Aromatherapy reservoir sits above the steam nozzle — drop in eucalyptus or peppermint oil and the steam carries the scent. Chromotherapy is an LED system with a cycling color wheel or a fixed color setting. All three are standard, not upsells.
The back and side walls are reinforced acrylic with a smooth gel-coated interior finish — white is standard, gray is available on select models (500XL, WS-501). Acrylic is warmer to the touch than tile, easier to clean, and doesn't have grout lines that trap mildew. The glass panels attach with stainless steel hinges and gaskets. The floor tray is molded acrylic with a reflexology foot massage pattern and a centered 2" drain.
Every Mesa WS unit needs three things wired and plumbed before it arrives:
Dedicated 220V/240V circuit, 20–30A breaker, hardwired by a licensed electrician. This is the non-negotiable step. The generator will not run on a standard 110V outlet. Confirm the circuit requirement on the specific product page — most Mesa units spec 220V/20A, but larger combos can require 30A.
Hot and cold water supply (1/2" lines) and a 2" drain with P-trap. Standard bathroom rough-in. Pressure should sit between 30 and 70 PSI. If you're replacing an existing shower, the lines are often already in position.
Flat, level floor with a water-resistant surface. Mesa units ship as pre-assembled wall and base panels that bolt together on-site. Two people can typically complete assembly in 4–6 hours once the electrical and plumbing rough-in is done. No tile work required.
Both brands sell through the same channels and run similar feature sets, but the differences matter if you're cross-shopping. Mesa ships with 5–6mm tempered glass; Ariel Platinum uses 8mm on most DZ-series units. Ariel Platinum has a more architectural look — squared edges, larger ceiling rain panels on models like the DZ972F8, and touchscreen control panels on higher-end units. Mesa prices lower across equivalent configurations and has more SKU variety in the corner and tub combo categories. Pick Mesa for the broader model selection and the lower price; pick Ariel Platinum for thicker glass and sharper styling. Both run the same 3kW steam generator standard.
Size the corner or wall first — if you have a small bathroom with an open 36"–48" corner, a 300-series or 9090 is the fit. Flat-wall bathroom over 60 sq ft: a 500XL or 802L walk-in gives you room to move. Want the soak option: any of the WS-608, WS-609, WS-701, WS-702, WS-807, or WS-905 combos, all in the combo collection. Confirm the left/right orientation on the handed models (WS-802L, WS-905) against your plumbing side before ordering — swapping isn't always possible after the fact. For everything else, the 3kW generator, body jets, rainhead where applicable, FM radio, aromatherapy, and chromotherapy lighting come standard regardless of which WS you pick.
If Mesa doesn't match what you're looking for, the parent steam shower category hub covers both brands, and the bathroom collection pairs tubs, vanities, and tub-only models alongside.
