What is the Harvia Club electric sauna heater?

The Harvia Club (K10G, K12.5G and K15G) is a floor-standing electric sauna heater for large sauna rooms of 390 to 1,000 cu ft. It comes in 10, 12.5 and 15 kW, on 240 V single-phase or 208 V three-phase power, holds 132 lb (60 kg) of 2–4" stones, and has no controls of its own: it runs from a separate Harvia Xenio or Fenix control, sold separately.

Which control does the Harvia Club need?

The Harvia Club needs a separate Harvia control. Topture sells Harvia's Club models without a contactor, which Harvia's Club manual pairs with the Xenio CX30 and CX45 control units. The 10 kW Club takes the Harvia Xenio CX30-U1-U3-XW or CX45-U1-U3-XW, or the Harvia Fenix FX30-U1-U3-XC or FX45-U1-U3-XC; the 12.5 and 15 kW Clubs take the CX45 or FX45 only, because the CX30 and FX30 handle at most 11 kW. The Xenio can be set from 104 to 194°F (40–90°C), runs the heater for up to 1 hour per start and can delay a start by up to 12 hours, and has Wi-Fi for Harvia's MyHarvia app; the Fenix has the same setting range and Wi-Fi monitoring in the MyHarvia app.

Which Harvia Club size fits my sauna?

Choose the Harvia Club by the volume of your sauna room. Harvia's sizing rule adds 1.2 m³ for every square meter of uninsulated brick, glass block, glass, concrete or tile wall, about 3.9 cu ft per sq ft, and a glass door counts: Harvia's example is a 10 m³ room with a glass door, which needs the output of a 12 m³ room. Multiply the volume of a solid-log sauna by 1.5. The room must be at least 6.5 ft (78") tall.

Installation

How is the Harvia Club installed?

The Harvia Club stands on the sauna floor inside the safety distances below, and the electrical contractor secures it to the floor with at least two screws or bolts; Harvia does not allow it to be recessed into a wall or floor, and a sauna room takes only one electric heater. Harvia's Club manual places the control outside the sauna room, in a dry place about 5 ft (1,500 mm) high and never outdoors, with its temperature sensor in a sensor box above the heater; the control's power unit needs a dry place above 32°F (0°C). Harvia's Club manual says only a licensed electrician may connect the heater. On 240 V single-phase, the electrical contractor also supplies a 2-pole, 2-breaker subpanel load center that feeds the control's power unit. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code. Harvia's Club manual, under Documents, gives the wiring diagrams; the control's own manual gives the sensor position.

Does the sauna room need ventilation?

Yes. Harvia's manual for the Club calls for adjustable vents that change the air five times an hour: a lower vent close to the heater and an upper vent on the opposite wall. The manual gives their sizes and positions.

On 240 V the electrical contractor also supplies a 2-pole, 2-breaker subpanel that feeds the control's power unit, and Harvia's manual says only a licensed electrician may connect the heater. Your licensed electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.

How long does the Harvia Club take to heat up?

Before the first sauna, Harvia says to run the heater for an hour to burn off the coating on the elements. The Xenio control runs the heater for up to 1 hour per start and can delay a start by up to 12 hours.

Which stones does the Harvia Club take, and how are they maintained?

The Harvia Club takes 132 lb (60 kg) of 2 to 4 in (5–10 cm) split-face stones, which three 44 lb boxes of Harvia AC3000 cover; Harvia's manual names peridotite, olivine diabase, olivine and vulcanite, and rules out ceramic stones and soft potstone. Wash off stone dust, then pile the stones between the heating elements so they support each other and cover the elements completely, without wedging them in or piling them high. Rearrange them at least once a year, remove broken pieces and replace disintegrated stones.

What problems can happen with the Harvia Club, and how are they avoided?

If the Harvia Club does not heat, Harvia's Club manual says to check that the current from the control unit to the heater is on, that the temperature set on the control panel is higher than the sauna temperature, and that the breaker is on and the right size. The warranty does not cover damage from decorative stones, stones Harvia does not recommend, or disintegrated or too-small stones blocking the heater's air flow, so keep the stones rearranged. Nothing may be placed in or near the stone space that changes the air flow, because it can overheat the heater and set wall surfaces on fire.

Orders over $200 ship free within the continental United States. Orders under $200 carry a small shipping fee.

Two exceptions: SaunaLife and ThermaSol products carry a freight charge at any order value, and sauna stones ordered without a heater ship at $60 per box because of their weight.
