The SunRay Grandby (model 300D3) is a 3-person outdoor far-infrared sauna built from Canadian hemlock, with a sealed weatherproof cabin, a metal composite roof, and a glass door set between two front windows. The cabin is 69" W × 47" D × 87" H, the roof overhangs it to a 79" W × 61" D footprint, and the interior measures 55" W × 43" D × 68" H. Seven far-infrared heaters draw 2,100 W and bring it to 140°F on a dedicated 120 V outlet with its own 20 A circuit. SunRay lists the Grandby at 425 lbs, and it arrives by LTL freight as a kit to assemble on site.
The Grandby is the 3-person model in SunRay's D3 outdoor infrared series. The 2-person SunRay Burlington is the smaller version at 47" × 45", with six heaters on the same 120 V, 20 A outlet, and the 4-person SunRay Cayenne is the larger one at 79" × 52", with ten heaters on a 240 V, 30 A circuit. For other sizes and brands, see our outdoor infrared saunas.
How the SunRay Grandby heats
Seven far-infrared heater panels warm the Grandby directly, with no stove or rocks, and SunRay rates it to 140°F.
- Far-infrared heaters: seven, drawing 2,100 W together. SunRay does not say what the heater elements are made of.
- Temperature: a 140°F maximum. The D3 manual puts the normal setting at 120–140°F and allows roughly 8–15 minutes of warm-up.
- LED control panel: buttons for power, the session timer, the thermostat (reads in °F or °C), the color light, the lights and music. Once the cabin reaches the set temperature, the heaters cycle to hold it.
- Roof vent: opens to bring in fresh air.
- Lighting: recessed interior lights, with a reading light and a color therapy light in seven colors listed in the D3 manual.
- Sound: a Bluetooth sound system, and music from a USB drive according to the manual.
- Oxygen ionizer: listed by SunRay as an oxygen ionization system for purifying the air.
- Seating: a bench for three, with a backrest and cup holders.
- Cabin: sealed, weatherproof Canadian hemlock under a metal composite roof, with two front windows beside the glass door.

What electrical connection does the SunRay Grandby need?
Its own dedicated 120 V outlet on a 20 A circuit that nothing else shares; SunRay lists the supply as 110–120 V. The seven heaters draw 2,100 W, and SunRay's D3 manual says no other appliance may be plugged into the sauna's outlet. If there is no dedicated 20 A outlet where the Grandby will stand, a licensed electrician runs a new circuit and fits one, and if your electrical panel has no room for another breaker, your electrician may need to upgrade it first.
SunRay does not state which plug the Grandby uses, so contact us before the outlet goes in and we will confirm the connection with you. The cabin's own wiring connects by plug during assembly: the power plugs join at the bench panel, and the lines for the color light, reading light and oxygen ionizer are fed through the ceiling to their partners in the roof. That leaves the outlet and its circuit as the only electrical work on site.
Where can the SunRay Grandby be installed?
Outdoors, on level ground prepared as a base. SunRay designed the Grandby for outdoor use, with a sealed weatherproof cabin and a metal composite roof. Its D3 manual lists a wooden deck, a concrete pad or pavers as suitable bases, and asks for a waterproof barrier under the floor on damp sites or wherever the floor sits on pavers or other ground-contact surfaces. Plan for the 79" × 61" roof footprint rather than the 69" × 47" cabin alone.
Looking after it outdoors
The weather sealant on the Grandby's cabin wears with exposure, so SunRay's D3 manual recommends resealing the exterior every year or as needed. SunRay's warranty certificate also requires annual resealing for outdoor saunas sold without a weather cover, and the Grandby does not come with one.
How is the SunRay Grandby assembled?
The Grandby is built from flat-packed panels by at least 2 adults, following SunRay's D3 series install manual. The floor goes down first on a level base, with waterproof sealant under each wall, then the back wall, the side walls and the front wall, which fasten together with latches. The vertical bench panel comes next, with its power plugs connected before the bench top is screwed on, followed by the backrest and door handle. After the interior ceiling is in and the accessory lines are fed out, the metal roof is screwed on with sealant between its two panels, the roof cover is sealed along its inside edges, and a final bead of sealant goes around the door frame and along the base.
SunRay estimates about two hours. Its FAQ names a Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit as the only tool, but the sealant steps also call for a caulking gun, and SunRay does not say whether the sealant comes with the kit. If a new outlet is needed, a licensed electrician installs it.
How is the SunRay Grandby delivered?
The SunRay Grandby ships by LTL freight, with its panels boxed and strapped to a wooden pallet, and SunRay lists its shipping weight at 425 lbs. Delivery is curbside with a lift gate, which lowers the shipment to the driveway; moving it from there to the base is up to you, so plan the route before the truck arrives.

|---|---|
| Delivery point | Curbside, lowered to the driveway by lift gate |
| Shipping weight | 425 lbs (SunRay) |
| Shipping cost | Free within the contiguous US |

The carrier will reach out to book the delivery appointment once the shipment reaches their local terminal.
Inspect the shipment before you sign. SunRay's warranty excludes freight damage caused by the carrier, so note any visible damage on the delivery receipt, photograph it, and contact us before you start assembly. SunRay's delivery policy asks for internal damage found after unpacking to be reported within 3 business days of delivery.
One SunRay manual, the D3 series install manual, documents the Grandby alongside the Burlington and Cayenne. It gives each model's roof dimensions and wattage, the base and outlet requirements, the build steps and the controller functions, so you can read it before the sauna arrives.

Electrical Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas require a dedicated 240V circuit in order to accommodate the high heat output of the heater. Please reference the product specification sheet to determine the specific requirements for your sauna.
Ventilation Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas are equipped with an air vent in the ceiling. This air vent is designed to help circulate heat throughout the sauna during the heat-up phase and to allow moisture to leave the sauna if you are adding humidity and using it as a steam sauna. The sauna cabin air vent also allows you to lower the sauna temperature without opening the door if the temperature inside the sauna becomes too hot.
Maximum Temperature
SunRay indoor traditional saunas have a maximum operating temperature of 170 degrees Fahrenheit. The normal operating range is 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Traditional Sauna Shipping
All traditional saunas are shipped via truck freight with curbside and lift-gate delivery service unless otherwise specified. SunRay traditional saunas and steam saunas are shipped on a wooden pallet with removable bracing to protect the sauna boxes. Please contact us if you have special requirements for delivery. The trucking company will call you to schedule a delivery appointment.
Sauna Warranty
SunRay home saunas carry a 7-year structural warranty and 1-year parts warranty. All SunRay sauna parts, including electronic parts and the electric heater, are guaranteed for 1 year against defects.
Electrical Connection
Indoor traditional saunas for the home come with a power cord attached to the heater. The power cord does not have a plug. It is designed to be hard-wired into a junction box or you can put a plug on the end of the power cord. Please note that the power requirements differ by sauna model. Consult your traditional sauna user manual for the specific power requirements.
Assembly and Installation
An indoor traditional sauna is easily assembled by two adults. The typical assembly time is 1 hour. No special tools are required for the sauna to be assembled.
Cleaning Your Home Sauna
Your home sauna should be cleaned a minimum of every 3-4 months or more frequently depending on usage. To clean the interior of your home sauna, use a mixture of baking soda and water (3 teaspoons baking soda to 1 gallon of warm water). Using a clean towel, wipe down the interior of the sauna, focusing on where sweat accumulates. Let the area dry with the sauna door open. Use a standard ammonia-based glass cleaner to clean the sauna doors and windows.
Traditional Sauna Origin
SunRay traditional sauna cabins are constructed from Hemlock or Cedar wood imported from Canada. SunRay's manufacturing facility is in China and its distribution facility is in the United States. Warranty claims are handled by SunRay Saunas, based in Richmond, VA, and Topture helps you coordinate them.
Sauna Specification Sheets
Each SunRay sauna has a specification sheet with all the details of the kit, including the power requirements. Contact us if you would like a copy.
Placing an Indoor Sauna Outdoors
SunRay indoor traditional saunas are not rated for outdoor use. They have an open top that is not protected from the elements. If you place the indoor sauna outdoors, it must be covered and protected from the elements. Indoor saunas that are placed outdoors will not be covered under SunRay's sauna warranty.
Sauna Heating Time
The average heating time for traditional home saunas ranges between 30-45 minutes depending on the room temperature, size of the sauna, and the heater type.
Ceiling Clearance
You need at least 3-4 inches between the top of the home sauna and the ceiling. This allows the electrical components on the top of the sauna to receive the appropriate amount of airflow.
Sauna Stones
SunRay indoor traditional saunas come with heater stones that sit on top of the heater elements. The heater stones are used to help radiate heat throughout the sauna and can be used to create humidity inside the sauna. DO NOT pour excess water on the heater stones as it will cause damage to the heater. To create humidity in the sauna, simply drizzle a small amount of water over the stones once they are hot.
Sauna Heater Placement
All indoor traditional saunas are equipped with either a wall mounting bracket or cradle for the heater to sit in. DO NOT place the sauna heater directly on the floor as it could become a fire hazard. The sauna must be elevated off the floor to create airflow through the heating elements.
Sauna Lighting
All indoor traditional saunas come with ambient dome lighting. Saunas with dome lighting can be connected to the heater so that the light turns off when the heater turns off. Alternatively, you can wire the lighting separately on its own switch. Consult your sauna heating wiring guide for instructions on how to wire your sauna light into the heater.
