The SunRay Burlington (model 200D3) is a 2-person outdoor far-infrared sauna built from Canadian hemlock, with a sealed weatherproof finish, a metal composite roof and a glass door. It measures 47" W × 45" D × 87" H as a cabin, with a 67" W × 59" D roof footprint, and 43" W × 41" D × 68" H inside. SunRay lists its six far-infrared heaters at 1,900 W, reaching 140°F on a dedicated 120 V outlet with its own 20 A circuit. Its listed shipping weight is 301 lbs, and it ships by LTL freight as a kit for on-site assembly.
The Burlington is the 2-person model in SunRay's D3 outdoor infrared series, whose three sizes share one install manual. The 3-person SunRay Grandby is 69" × 47" with seven heaters and runs on the same dedicated 120 V, 20 A outlet; the 4-person SunRay Cayenne is 79" × 52" with ten heaters and needs a 240 V, 30 A circuit. For other sizes and brands, see our outdoor infrared saunas.
How the SunRay Burlington heats
Heat comes from far-infrared heater panels rather than a stove with rocks, and SunRay rates the cabin to 140°F.
- Far-infrared heaters: six, 1,900 W in total as SunRay lists them; the specification table in SunRay's D3 manual gives 1,800 W for this model. SunRay does not name the element type.
- Heat: up to 140°F. SunRay's D3 manual gives a normal setting of 120–140°F and allows about 8–15 minutes to warm up.
- Controls: a digital control panel with power, a session timer, the thermostat (switchable between °F and °C), the color light, the lights and music. At the set temperature, the heaters switch on and off to hold it.
- Roof vent: can be opened for fresh air during a session.
- Lighting: recessed interior lighting, plus the reading light and the seven-color color therapy light that the D3 manual lists.
- Audio: a Bluetooth sound system; the manual also describes playing music from a USB drive.
- Oxygen ionizer: SunRay lists an oxygen ionization system for purifying the air.
- Seating: a bench along the rear wall for two, with a backrest and cup holders.
- Cabin: Canadian hemlock with a sealed weatherproof finish, under a metal composite roof.

What electrical connection does the SunRay Burlington need?
A dedicated 120 V outlet on its own 20 A circuit; SunRay lists the supply as 110–120 V. SunRay lists the Burlington's heaters at 1,900 W, and its D3 manual says no other appliance may be plugged into the sauna's outlet, so the circuit cannot be shared. Where the site has no dedicated 20 A outlet, a licensed electrician runs a new circuit and installs one. If your electrical panel has no room for another breaker, your electrician may need to upgrade it first.
SunRay does not state which plug the Burlington uses, so contact us before an outlet is installed and we will confirm the connection with you. Inside the cabin everything connects by plug: during assembly the power plugs are joined at the bench, and the lines for the color light, the reading light and the oxygen ionizer are fed through the ceiling to their pairs in the roof. The only site wiring is the outlet and its circuit.
Where can the SunRay Burlington be installed?
Outdoors, on a level surface. SunRay built the Burlington as an outdoor sauna, with a sealed weatherproof finish and a metal composite roof. SunRay's D3 manual names a wooden deck, a concrete pad or pavers, and calls for a waterproof barrier between the sauna floor and the surface wherever the site is damp or the floor sits on pavers or anything else in contact with the ground. The site needs room for the 67" × 59" roof footprint, not just the 47" × 45" cabin.
Looking after it outdoors
SunRay's D3 manual explains that the cabin's weather sealant wears as it is exposed to the elements, and recommends resealing the exterior every year or as needed. SunRay's warranty certificate makes annual resealing a condition of cover for outdoor saunas sold without a weather cover. The Burlington does not include one.
How is the SunRay Burlington assembled?
From flat-packed panels, following SunRay's D3 series install manual, which says assembly needs at least 2 adults. The manual's sequence: set the floor on a level surface, run waterproof sealant along the bottom of each wall, fit the back wall, then latch the side walls and the front wall in place. Next comes the vertical bench panel, whose power plugs are connected before the bench top is screwed on, then the backrest and the door handle. The interior ceiling follows, with the accessory lines fed out to the roof, and the metal roof is screwed on with sealant between its two panels and along the roof cover's inside edges. Sealant around the door frame and along the base finishes the build.
SunRay estimates about two hours for the build. SunRay's FAQ names a Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit as the only tool; the manual's sealant steps also call for a caulking gun, and SunRay does not say whether the sealant is supplied. A new outlet, where one is needed, is work for a licensed electrician.
How is the SunRay Burlington delivered?
The SunRay Burlington ships by LTL freight, with its panels boxed and strapped to a wooden pallet, and SunRay lists its shipping weight at 301 lbs. Delivery is curbside with a lift gate, which lowers the shipment to the driveway; moving it from there to the base is up to you, so plan the route before the truck arrives.

Electrical Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas require a dedicated 240V circuit in order to accommodate the high heat output of the heater. Please reference the product specification sheet to determine the specific requirements for your sauna.
Ventilation Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas are equipped with an air vent in the ceiling. This air vent is designed to help circulate heat throughout the sauna during the heat-up phase and to allow moisture to leave the sauna if you are adding humidity and using it as a steam sauna. The sauna cabin air vent also allows you to lower the sauna temperature without opening the door if the temperature inside the sauna becomes too hot.
Maximum Temperature
SunRay indoor traditional saunas have a maximum operating temperature of 170 degrees Fahrenheit. The normal operating range is 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Traditional Sauna Shipping
All traditional saunas are shipped via truck freight with curbside and lift-gate delivery service unless otherwise specified. SunRay traditional saunas and steam saunas are shipped on a wooden pallet with removable bracing to protect the sauna boxes. Please contact us if you have special requirements for delivery. The trucking company will call you to schedule a delivery appointment.
Sauna Warranty
SunRay home saunas carry a 7-year structural warranty and 1-year parts warranty. All SunRay sauna parts, including electronic parts and the electric heater, are guaranteed for 1 year against defects.
Electrical Connection
Indoor traditional saunas for the home come with a power cord attached to the heater. The power cord does not have a plug. It is designed to be hard-wired into a junction box or you can put a plug on the end of the power cord. Please note that the power requirements differ by sauna model. Consult your traditional sauna user manual for the specific power requirements.
Assembly and Installation
An indoor traditional sauna is easily assembled by two adults. The typical assembly time is 1 hour. No special tools are required for the sauna to be assembled.
Cleaning Your Home Sauna
Your home sauna should be cleaned a minimum of every 3-4 months or more frequently depending on usage. To clean the interior of your home sauna, use a mixture of baking soda and water (3 teaspoons baking soda to 1 gallon of warm water). Using a clean towel, wipe down the interior of the sauna, focusing on where sweat accumulates. Let the area dry with the sauna door open. Use a standard ammonia-based glass cleaner to clean the sauna doors and windows.
Traditional Sauna Origin
SunRay traditional sauna cabins are constructed from Hemlock or Cedar wood imported from Canada. SunRay's manufacturing facility is in China and its distribution facility is in the United States. Warranty claims are handled by SunRay Saunas, based in Richmond, VA, and Topture helps you coordinate them.
Sauna Specification Sheets
Each SunRay sauna has a specification sheet with all the details of the kit, including the power requirements. Contact us if you would like a copy.
Placing an Indoor Sauna Outdoors
SunRay indoor traditional saunas are not rated for outdoor use. They have an open top that is not protected from the elements. If you place the indoor sauna outdoors, it must be covered and protected from the elements. Indoor saunas that are placed outdoors will not be covered under SunRay's sauna warranty.
Sauna Heating Time
The average heating time for traditional home saunas ranges between 30-45 minutes depending on the room temperature, size of the sauna, and the heater type.
Ceiling Clearance
You need at least 3-4 inches between the top of the home sauna and the ceiling. This allows the electrical components on the top of the sauna to receive the appropriate amount of airflow.
Sauna Stones
SunRay indoor traditional saunas come with heater stones that sit on top of the heater elements. The heater stones are used to help radiate heat throughout the sauna and can be used to create humidity inside the sauna. DO NOT pour excess water on the heater stones as it will cause damage to the heater. To create humidity in the sauna, simply drizzle a small amount of water over the stones once they are hot.
Sauna Heater Placement
All indoor traditional saunas are equipped with either a wall mounting bracket or cradle for the heater to sit in. DO NOT place the sauna heater directly on the floor as it could become a fire hazard. The sauna must be elevated off the floor to create airflow through the heating elements.
Sauna Lighting
All indoor traditional saunas come with ambient dome lighting. Saunas with dome lighting can be connected to the heater so that the light turns off when the heater turns off. Alternatively, you can wire the lighting separately on its own switch. Consult your sauna heating wiring guide for instructions on how to wire your sauna light into the heater.
