The SunRay Eagle (model 200D1) is a 2-person outdoor traditional sauna built from aged Canadian hemlock, with a metal composite roof, a wooden door with a small grid window, and a 4.5 kW Harvia electric heater included. It measures 51" W × 51" D × 98" H as a cabin, with a 61" × 61" roof footprint, and 45" W × 45" D × 73" H inside. SunRay sells it as a wet/dry sauna and includes a wooden bucket and ladle. SunRay lists the Eagle at 725 lbs, and it ships by LTL freight as a kit for on-site assembly.
The Eagle and the SunRay Bristow are the two 2-person models covered by SunRay's traditional outdoor series manual. The Bristow has the same 61" × 61" roof footprint, 45" × 45" interior and 4.5 kW heater in a 50" × 50" cabin, with a glass door and a front window where the Eagle has a wooden door. For three people, the SunRay Freeport and the SunRay Waverly use the same heater in a 61" × 51" cabin. For other sizes and brands, see our outdoor traditional saunas.
How the SunRay Eagle is built
SunRay builds the Eagle as a sealed, weatherproof cabin for outdoor use, and the heater, lights, speakers and control keypad all come in the kit.
- Aged Canadian hemlock: double-paneled walls, joined tongue-and-groove.
- Metal composite roof: a hip roof whose overhang takes the footprint from the 51" × 51" cabin to 61" × 61".
- Door: wooden, with a small grid window.
- 4.5 kW Harvia electric heater: it sits in a wooden heater frame inside the cabin. SunRay does not name the Harvia model.
- Temperature: up to 170°F. SunRay's manual suggests a setting of 125–170°F and a warm-up of about 45–60 minutes.
- 44" bench: one bench with a backrest and cup holders.
- Digital keypad: power, a session timer, the thermostat (°F or °C), the interior light, the color light and Bluetooth music. Once the room reaches the set temperature, the heater switches on and off to hold it.
- Ceiling vent: it can be opened during a session to let in fresh air.
- Light and sound: an interior light, chromotherapy lighting that cycles through seven colors, and Bluetooth speakers.
- Accessories: a hygrometer and thermometer, a sand timer, and a wooden bucket and ladle.

Can you assemble the SunRay Eagle yourself?
The cabin, yes; the 240 V connection, no. SunRay's assembly manual says the build needs at least two adults, SunRay names a Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit as the only tool, and SunRay estimates about two hours of work. The electrical connection is work for a licensed electrician.
The manual works up from the floor: the bottom panel, the back wall, the side walls on their slide brackets, then the front wall and the door handle. The heater goes into its wooden frame and its plug connects to the cabin's power box. The bench slides into channels in the side walls, the backrest and accessories screw on, and the flat ceiling goes on with the accessory wires fed up through it and joined by plug connectors. The outer roof goes on last.
Before the sauna arrives
- Prepare the base. SunRay's manual calls for a sturdy, level surface such as a concrete pad, a wood deck or pavers, rules out setting the sauna directly on the ground, and asks for a floor separator or moisture barrier where the ground is damp.
- Have a licensed electrician run a dedicated 240 V, 30 A circuit to the site. SunRay does not say whether the Eagle is hard-wired or connected by plug, so confirm the connection with us before the work is booked.
- Plan how the boxed panels will get from the curb to the base. See Shipping below.
Tools you supply
A Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit, and at least one other adult to help.
What electrical service does the SunRay Eagle need?
A dedicated 240 V circuit rated for 30 A, the same kind of circuit an electric clothes dryer uses; SunRay lists it as 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz. The heater draws 4,500 W, and nothing else can share the circuit. If your electrical panel has no room for another 240 V breaker, your electrician may need to upgrade it before delivery.
The electrician runs that circuit to the sauna and makes the connection. SunRay does not state whether the Eagle is hard-wired or plugged in, so contact us before the circuit goes in and we will confirm it with you. Inside the cabin, the wiring plugs together during assembly: the heater plugs into the power box and the ceiling accessories join through plug connectors, so the supply circuit is the only site wiring. SunRay's manual sends you to the Harvia heater manual supplied with the sauna for the exact voltage and amperage; give both manuals to your electrician.
How do you look after the SunRay Eagle outdoors?
Reseal the exterior every year. SunRay's warranty certificate makes annual resealing a condition of cover for outdoor saunas sold without a weather cover, and SunRay lists no weather cover with the Eagle. The same certificate treats surface cracks and minor blemishes in the wood as normal rather than defects.
How is the SunRay Eagle delivered?
The SunRay Eagle ships by LTL freight, with its panels boxed and strapped to a wooden pallet, and SunRay lists its shipping weight at 725 lbs. Delivery is curbside with a lift gate, which lowers the shipment to the driveway; moving it from there to the base is up to you, so plan the route before the truck arrives.
| Freight type | LTL truck; boxed panels on a wooden pallet |
|---|---|
| Delivery point | Curbside, lowered to the driveway by lift gate |
| Shipping weight | 725 lbs (SunRay) |
| Shipping cost | Free within the contiguous US |
| Appointment | Required; someone must be present to inspect and sign |
The carrier will reach out to book the delivery appointment once the shipment reaches their local terminal.
Inspect the shipment before you sign. SunRay's warranty excludes freight damage caused by the carrier, so note any visible damage on the delivery receipt, photograph it, and contact us before you start assembly. SunRay's delivery policy asks for internal damage found after unpacking to be reported within 3 business days of delivery.
SunRay's assembly manual for its traditional outdoor series covers the Eagle's parts, build sequence, heater connection, keypad and operation, so your electrician can review it before delivery. Two things in it differ from SunRay's current Eagle listing: its model table gives the 2-person cabin as 50" × 50" rather than 51" × 51", and its roof pages show the series' earlier shingled roof, where the Eagle now ships with a metal composite roof. The Harvia heater's own manual, with the heater's electrical data, comes with the sauna.

Electrical Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas require a dedicated 240V circuit in order to accommodate the high heat output of the heater. Please reference the product specification sheet to determine the specific requirements for your sauna.
Ventilation Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas are equipped with an air vent in the ceiling. This air vent is designed to help circulate heat throughout the sauna during the heat-up phase and to allow moisture to leave the sauna if you are adding humidity and using it as a steam sauna. The sauna cabin air vent also allows you to lower the sauna temperature without opening the door if the temperature inside the sauna becomes too hot.
Maximum Temperature
SunRay indoor traditional saunas have a maximum operating temperature of 170 degrees Fahrenheit. The normal operating range is 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Traditional Sauna Shipping
All traditional saunas are shipped via truck freight with curbside and lift-gate delivery service unless otherwise specified. SunRay traditional saunas and steam saunas are shipped on a wooden pallet with removable bracing to protect the sauna boxes. Please contact us if you have special requirements for delivery. The trucking company will call you to schedule a delivery appointment.
Sauna Warranty
SunRay home saunas carry a 7-year structural warranty and 1-year parts warranty. All SunRay sauna parts, including electronic parts and the electric heater, are guaranteed for 1 year against defects.
Electrical Connection
Indoor traditional saunas for the home come with a power cord attached to the heater. The power cord does not have a plug. It is designed to be hard-wired into a junction box or you can put a plug on the end of the power cord. Please note that the power requirements differ by sauna model. Consult your traditional sauna user manual for the specific power requirements.
Assembly and Installation
An indoor traditional sauna is easily assembled by two adults. The typical assembly time is 1 hour. No special tools are required for the sauna to be assembled.
Cleaning Your Home Sauna
Your home sauna should be cleaned a minimum of every 3-4 months or more frequently depending on usage. To clean the interior of your home sauna, use a mixture of baking soda and water (3 teaspoons baking soda to 1 gallon of warm water). Using a clean towel, wipe down the interior of the sauna, focusing on where sweat accumulates. Let the area dry with the sauna door open. Use a standard ammonia-based glass cleaner to clean the sauna doors and windows.
Traditional Sauna Origin
SunRay traditional sauna cabins are constructed from Hemlock or Cedar wood imported from Canada. SunRay's manufacturing facility is in China and its distribution facility is in the United States. Warranty claims are handled by SunRay Saunas, based in Richmond, VA, and Topture helps you coordinate them.
Sauna Specification Sheets
Each SunRay sauna has a specification sheet with all the details of the kit, including the power requirements. Contact us if you would like a copy.
Placing an Indoor Sauna Outdoors
SunRay indoor traditional saunas are not rated for outdoor use. They have an open top that is not protected from the elements. If you place the indoor sauna outdoors, it must be covered and protected from the elements. Indoor saunas that are placed outdoors will not be covered under SunRay's sauna warranty.
Sauna Heating Time
The average heating time for traditional home saunas ranges between 30-45 minutes depending on the room temperature, size of the sauna, and the heater type.
Ceiling Clearance
You need at least 3-4 inches between the top of the home sauna and the ceiling. This allows the electrical components on the top of the sauna to receive the appropriate amount of airflow.
Sauna Stones
SunRay indoor traditional saunas come with heater stones that sit on top of the heater elements. The heater stones are used to help radiate heat throughout the sauna and can be used to create humidity inside the sauna. DO NOT pour excess water on the heater stones as it will cause damage to the heater. To create humidity in the sauna, simply drizzle a small amount of water over the stones once they are hot.
Sauna Heater Placement
All indoor traditional saunas are equipped with either a wall mounting bracket or cradle for the heater to sit in. DO NOT place the sauna heater directly on the floor as it could become a fire hazard. The sauna must be elevated off the floor to create airflow through the heating elements.
Sauna Lighting
All indoor traditional saunas come with ambient dome lighting. Saunas with dome lighting can be connected to the heater so that the light turns off when the heater turns off. Alternatively, you can wire the lighting separately on its own switch. Consult your sauna heating wiring guide for instructions on how to wire your sauna light into the heater.
