The Georgian is Dundalk Leisurecraft's flagship cabin sauna — part of their Canadian Timber Collection, handcrafted in Ontario from Eastern White Cedar. Unlike barrel or pod saunas, the cabin design gives you a flat floor, vertical walls, and a peaked roof that sheds rain and snow the way a building should. It arrives as a ready-to-assemble kit with pre-cut tongue-and-groove cedar, a 5mm bronze tempered glass door and cedar frame pre-mounted on the front wall, and a premium metal shingle roof — everything you need to build a permanent outdoor sauna.

The wood matters here more than most people realize. Eastern White Cedar is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insect damage without any chemical treatment. It has a beautiful light-colored finish that weathers gracefully over time. The walls are 1.5 inches of solid cedar tongue-and-groove construction. That thickness holds heat, handles freeze-thaw cycles, and won't warp or bow the way thinner-walled saunas do after a few seasons of outdoor use.

Inside, the Georgian is genuinely spacious: 353 cubic feet of interior volume with a 7-foot ceiling you can actually stand in. The L-shaped lower bench wraps two walls, with a second-tier upper bench across the back wall — so 2 to 6 people can sit comfortably without knocking knees. Two double-paned bronze tempered glass windows and a full glass door flood the interior with natural light while you're in session. Pair it with a 6–9kW electric heater or a wood-burning stove (sold separately) and you're at full sauna temperature within 30–45 minutes depending on outside conditions.

How the Georgian Cabin Compares to a Barrel Sauna

If you're cross-shopping between the Georgian and a Dundalk barrel sauna, the short answer is: the Georgian gives you more usable space, and the barrel heats faster. Which one matters more depends on how you plan to use it.

The Georgian's flat floor and vertical walls mean every square foot of the interior is usable. You can stand up straight anywhere inside, lean back against a flat wall, and stretch out on wide, flat benches. In a barrel sauna, the curved walls cut into your usable space — the benches are narrower, you can only stand fully upright in the center, and the curved walls behind you don't give the same support. For 4–6 people, or anyone over 6 feet tall, the cabin layout is noticeably more comfortable.

Barrel saunas do have a real advantage in heat efficiency. The curved interior has less air volume per square foot of floor space, so a smaller heater can bring it to temperature faster and hold heat with less energy. If you're heating with wood and want the fastest session start, a barrel has an edge. But the Georgian's 353 cubic feet still reaches full temperature in 30–45 minutes with a 9kW electric heater — and once it's there, the thick cedar walls hold heat well.

The other practical difference is weather performance. The Georgian's peaked metal shingle roof sheds snow and rain like a standard building. Barrel saunas handle weather well too, but the flat ends can collect snow, and the barrel shape puts more stress on the staves over time as wood expands and contracts. The cabin design is inherently more structurally rigid — there's a reason buildings have been shaped this way for thousands of years.
