What is the HUUM STEEL 9 kW electric heater package?
The HUUM STEEL 9 kW package combines three parts: the HUUM STEEL 9 kW floor-standing electric sauna heater, a HUUM UKU control (UKU Local, or UKU Wi-Fi with a black, glass or mirror panel) and ten 33 lb boxes of HUUM Stones 12. It is sized for sauna rooms of 283–460 cu ft and runs on 240 V or 208 V. The package price is the sum of the three parts; ordering them together means the stone quantity and the control are already matched to the heater.
The STEEL 9 kW frames the natural stones in a stainless-steel enclosure. HUUM says the large stone load gives gentle, long-lasting steam, and that an internal air tunnel speeds heating by 25% and extends the life of the heating elements. HUUM makes its CLIFF heater's ribs from the steel cut out of the STEEL, so two heaters come from one sheet.
Which UKU control should I choose?
All four options run the HUUM STEEL 9 kW and set temperature, heating time and a start timer from the wall panel. The Wi-Fi options add the HUUM app, so you can start the sauna on your way home. The black CLASSIC panel must be mounted outside the sauna room. The glass and mirror panels are recessed into the wall, or mounted on the HUUM UKU Surface Frame where the wall can't take a recess, and HUUM allows them inside the sauna room if they sit away from the heater, with the top edge no higher than 40" above the floor and at least 20" from any exhaust vent (on the other side of the door if the vent is in the door wall).
| Panel | App control | Where the panel can go | |
|---|---|---|---|
| UKU Local Black | black CLASSIC panel (plastic) | Wall panel only; no app | Outside the sauna room (outdoors, HUUM recommends a weatherproof box) |
| UKU Wi-Fi Black | black CLASSIC panel (plastic) | HUUM app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi | Outside the sauna room (outdoors, HUUM recommends a weatherproof box) |
| UKU Wi-Fi Glass | black glass panel | HUUM app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi | Inside the sauna room (away from the heater, top edge no higher than 40" above the floor, at least 20" from an exhaust vent) or outside it; recessed, or on the UKU Surface Frame |
| UKU Wi-Fi Mirror | mirror-finish glass panel | HUUM app over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi | Inside the sauna room (away from the heater, top edge no higher than 40" above the floor, at least 20" from an exhaust vent) or outside it; recessed, or on the UKU Surface Frame |

|---|---|
| Temperature setting | From 104°F (40°C) up to 230°F (110°C) with the included safety sensor; UKU 4.2 kits also include a bench sensor, and with it fitted the maximum setting is 194°F (90°C) |

How is the HUUM STEEL 9 kW package installed?
The STEEL 9 kW stands on adjustable legs and is anchored to the floor with the supplied brackets, as HUUM's SGS listing requires; with the Flange CS it can sit partly inside the bench, with at least 21.7" (550 mm) above the bench surface. The UKU main module goes outside the sauna room (for the Wi-Fi options, where your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi reaches it), and the door sensor included with the UKU must be installed.
HUUM's STEEL manual says the electrical connection must be made by a licensed electrician, with a circuit breaker that disconnects all poles fitted before the sauna control, a heat-resistant power cable (no PVC insulation) and a waterproof junction box no higher than 20" (50 cm) above the floor; the cable enters through the heater's bottom cover. Your electrician sizes the breaker and wire from the manual that ships with the heater and your local code.
HUUM STEEL 9 kW safety distances
Keep at least these distances from the HUUM STEEL 9 kW to walls, benches and anything that can burn. The letters match the drawing.

| A | 3.94" (100 mm) |
|---|---|
| B | 20.5" (520 mm) |
- A: minimum distance from the heater to the walls beside it and in front of it, as HUUM's drawing marks A, and to anything that can burn
- B: minimum width between the walls on either side of the heater
- At least 47.3" (1,200 mm) from the top of the heater to the ceiling
- With a HUUM Reflect S hooked onto one side, HUUM says the heater's safety distance to flammable material on that side is halved
HUUM's STEEL manual gives a minimum sauna room height of 86.6" (2,200 mm), with a regular ceiling height of 86.6–91", allows only one heater per room, and calls for a sauna door that opens outward.
Stacking and caring for the stones
Wash the stones, then stack them loosely between the heating elements of the STEEL and close together on the outside so no element shows. Packed too tightly, the elements overheat, wear out sooner and heat the room more slowly; a sparsely filled heater is a fire hazard. Take care not to bend the elements. HUUM recommends having a specialist lay the stones. Stones crumble with use, so HUUM suggests ceramic tile with dark grout under and around the heater.
HUUM warranty periods
HUUM's limited warranty (Limited Warranty Terms and Conditions, US, v2) covers new HUUM products bought from HUUM or its authorized dealers, such as Topture, against defects in materials and workmanship. The period starts on the date the end user buys the product.
| HUUM product | Private use | Commercial use |
|---|---|---|
| Electric sauna heaters | 3 years | 1 year |
| Wood-burning sauna stoves | 3 years | 1 year |
| Control units (UKU) | 3 years | 1 year |
| Spare parts | 1 year | 1 year |
HUUM counts as commercial use a business using the product commercially, a private owner using it commercially, or a private owner using it for more than 1,500 hours in 12 months.
What the warranty does not cover
- Heating elements of electric heaters
- HUUM accessories, such as rails, reflectors, flanges, protective bedding and chimney parts
- Door glass and ash grate of wood-burning stoves
- Sauna stones
- All controller sensors
- Damage from a heater that is the wrong size for the room, from unsuitable stones, or from installation, use or maintenance that does not follow HUUM's manuals
What keeps the warranty in effect
- Inspect the product when it arrives and report any visible damage within 7 days, with photos, before installing it.
- Install it following HUUM's manual and local building, electrical and fire codes. An electric product must be connected by a licensed electrician, with proof of the installation.
- Report a defect within 30 days of finding it. For products bought from Topture, report it to Topture, which passes the claim to HUUM and helps with troubleshooting.
