The SaunaLife X2 is a 2-person indoor sauna kit with a full clear tempered-glass front wall and door, two tiers of knotless Aspen benching with a backrest, and Nordic Spruce walls and ceiling. It occupies a 59.1" by 59.1" square footprint, stands 82.7" tall overall on the manual's dimensional drawing, and weighs 948 lbs. It arrives as pre-assembled wall and ceiling elements that are put together in place. The electric heater and its control unit are chosen separately.

The X2 is a room built inside a room, not a cabin that goes in the garden. That changes what matters: instead of a foundation and freight-to-curb, the questions are whether your ceiling is high enough, whether the space is ventilated and drained, and whether an electrician can bring a circuit to it. SaunaLife's manual answers all three, and they are set out under Assembly & Installation below.

How the SaunaLife X2 is built

The X2 is finished on both faces in the same material, so it reads as a piece of furniture rather than a shed in a basement.

• Clear glass front: the front wall is a fixed glass panel plus a glass door, both 0.31" clear tempered glass. The door panel is 27.6" wide by 77.4" high; the fixed panel beside it is 24.1" wide by 78.4" high. The door runs on two glass-to-glass hinges with a wood-and-metal bar pull.
• Nordic Spruce shell: vertical 0.59"-thick profile boards on the inside walls, the ceiling and the outside walls alike, on a wooden base frame. The spruce is supplied unwaxed and has to be treated before first use.
• Knotless Aspen interior: the benches, backrest, bench skirt and the full-floor grid are knotless Aspen, also supplied unwaxed.
• Two-tier benching: an upper bench 51.5" long and 23.6" deep sits 26.8" above the floor; a lower bench 32.2" long and 15.7" deep sits 11.1" up and doubles as a step and a footrest.
• Indirect LED lighting: an LED strip mounted above and behind the backrest washes the ceiling rather than shining at you, dimmable from a wireless handheld remote.
• Built-in wall ventilation: an air inlet of about 4.3" × 6.7" in the wall beside the heater and an air outlet of about 3.1" × 6.7" in the wall, so the room breathes without you cutting anything.

What comes with the SaunaLife X2?

The SaunaLife X2 ships as a complete indoor sauna room apart from the heater system: the pre-assembled wall and ceiling elements, the base frame, the glass wall and door with their hardware, the two-tier Aspen benching and backrest, the full-floor grid, the heater guard, the LED lighting with its remote, the finishing mouldings and a small repair kit. The heater, its control unit, the sauna stones and the electrical work are not included.

Does the SaunaLife X2 include a heater?

No. The X2's manual lists the heater and the control unit as supplied by the customer, so both are chosen separately and ordered with the sauna. Four packages are offered for this sauna, selectable above, and each includes the heater, its control and its stones:

The X2 is built around a wall-mounted heater in the front corner beside the door: the wall carries two metal conduits for the heater cable, and the drawing specifies a conduit for the control unit starting 57" above the floor, with the hole for a HUUM UKU control unit drilled on site. SaunaLife X2 specifications

What does the room need before a SaunaLife X2 goes in?

Five things, all of them from SaunaLife's own manual, and all of them worth checking before you order rather than after the pallet arrives.

• Ceiling height. The manual's dimensional drawing gives an overall exterior height of 82.7", so allow at least that plus room to stand the wall elements up. Note that SaunaLife's marketing figure of 80" is the lower of two heights shown on that drawing — plan against 82.7".
• A gap around it. SaunaLife asks for an air gap between the sauna and the room's own walls, with a recommended minimum of 2", so condensation cannot form between the two structures. With that gap, the X2 needs about 63" by 63" of floor.
• A ventilated room with a drain. The manual requires the room to be well ventilated so the humidity and warm air the sauna produces can leave, and asks for a water drain on or near the sauna position. The X2's own wall vents handle air inside the cabin; the room around it still has to breathe.
• A level, stable floor. SaunaLife states plainly that it is not responsible for faults arising from an out-of-level substructure. The manual also warns that the glass door must never rest directly on a tiled or concrete floor during installation, because of the risk of shattering.
• Power. The installation site needs grid connection readiness for the heater and its control unit, and SaunaLife's manual states that the electrical components may be installed and connected only by a person with certified competence.

Can you assemble the SaunaLife X2 yourself?

SaunaLife's own answer is hedged, so ours is too. The X2-specific section of the manual describes a kit of pre-assembled wall and ceiling elements built with an ordinary tool set — water level, tape measure, power drill, rubber or plastic mallet, silicone gun and a screwdriver set — and states that installation requires at least two people. No saw is on that list. But the use-and-maintenance section of the same manual opens with "your sauna should be installed by a professional installer", and the electrical work is not optional: it has to be done by a certified electrician either way. Treat the cabinet as a competent-DIY job for two people and the heater wiring as trade work, and if you would rather not lift 948 lbs of panels yourself, take the manual's first recommendation.

Before you start

1. Store the package in a heated, dry room, then open it and let the components sit for 48 hours to acclimatise to the room's humidity — SaunaLife specifies roughly 72 °F and 40–60% relative humidity. Skipping this is how panels end up fighting you.
2. Check the substructure is level, connect the base frame, check its diagonals are equal, then silicone it down. If you may want to move the sauna later, the manual says the silicone can be left until afterwards.
3. Treat all wooden surfaces with a protective agent — SaunaLife recommends sauna wax or paraffin oil. The spruce and the Aspen are both supplied unwaxed, and the treatment has to happen before the sauna is used.

The first heating is a procedure, not a switch-on

SaunaLife requires a supervised first heating: bring the sauna slowly up to 212 °F (100 °C), hold it there for two hours with the door left half-open for ventilation, then let it cool slowly. Nobody should be inside during it — the point is to drive the protective agent into the wood and let production residues evaporate. In normal use the manual caps the sauna at 239 °F (115 °C).

How is the SaunaLife X2 delivered?

The SaunaLife X2 ships by LTL freight. The listed shipping weight is 1,040 lbs, and delivery is curbside with the shipment lowered to ground level on a pallet. A delivery appointment is required. Buyers should plan how the sauna components will move from the curb to the prepared installation area before the truck arrives. The X2 is an indoor sauna, so plan the route from the curb through doorways and any stairs to the finished room.

The carrier will reach out to book the appointment once the shipment arrives at their local terminal, and someone needs to be there to inspect and sign for it. The sauna arrives protected on a wooden pallet, sometimes encased in wood.

Inspect and photograph the shipment before you start assembly. SaunaLife's warranty does not cover damage — transport damage included — that would have been detectable by visual inspection before installation, so documenting it at delivery is what keeps both the freight claim and the warranty open.
