The SaunaLife CL3G is a 2-person outdoor cube sauna kit with a full-height bronze-tinted glass front, a two-tier knotless Thermo-Aspen bench and a solid Thermo-Spruce shell under an asphalt shingle roof. It measures 53.2" W × 51.2" D × 81.9" H on the outside and 49.6" W × 43.2" D × 75.4" H inside. The kit includes the shell, the glass front and door, the bench, backrest, a floor drain and Wi-Fi-controlled LED lighting, and ships flat-packed by LTL freight at 990 lbs. The electric heater and its controls are chosen separately.

The CL3G is the smallest room in SaunaLife's Cube Luxury Series and the one that fits where a 4- or 6-person cabin will not: its footprint is 53.2" × 51.2", roughly 19 square feet, while interior height stays at 75.4" so an adult of about 6'3" still stands upright inside. Handcrafted in Northern Europe from thermally modified woods, it is built to stay outdoors year-round.

How the SaunaLife CL3G is built

The CL3G uses a different material for each job: thermally modified spruce where the sauna meets the weather, knotless thermally modified aspen where skin meets the bench, and tempered glass across the front wall.

  • Panoramic glass front: a full-height wall of 0.31" tempered, bronze-tinted glass, including the door.
  • Thermo-Spruce shell: 1.65" solid staves on the side walls and a 1.1" board wall at the back. Thermal modification changes the wood's cell structure with heat rather than chemicals, which reduces moisture absorption and improves resistance to decay and insects outdoors.
  • Knotless Thermo-Aspen interior: the two-tier bench, the side bench and the backrest use satin-smooth knotless Thermo-Aspen, selected to give a cooler-to-the-touch seating surface.
  • Asphalt shingle roof: shingles over an underlay felt layer with a fascia board and drip rails — the same roofing material used on houses, rather than a temporary membrane cover.
  • Wi-Fi LED lighting: a dotless white LED bar system controlled from a phone app or the included wireless remote.
  • Ventilation and drainage: one adjustable rotary vent at high level, three louvered grilles at low level, and a floor drain.

No. The SaunaLife CL3G is a sauna room kit, so the electric heater, its control unit and the sauna stones are chosen separately and ordered with the sauna.

Three wall-mounted 4.5 kW electric heater packages are offered for this sauna, selectable above, and each one includes the heater, its control and its stones:

Can you assemble the SaunaLife CL3G yourself?

The structure, yes; the electrical work, no. The SaunaLife CL3G arrives flat-packed with full-length Thermo-Spruce wall staves, the bench boards, a complete montage hardware kit and an illustrated step-by-step manual, and it is designed to be put together on site. It is not a no-cut kit: SaunaLife lists a circular saw among the required tools, and the manual calls for trimming the flat edge of a roof board to width if needed. SaunaLife's own installation manual then instructs owners to "hire qualified professionals for electrical work, including heater and lighting installation" — so the heater, its control unit and the LED lighting are wired by a licensed electrician, not by you.

Plan the structure as a weekend project for two people, and book the electrician separately.

Before the sauna arrives

  1. Build or confirm the foundation. SaunaLife's manual says: "Ensure the sauna sits on a stable, level foundation for proper door and window operation. Ensure the base has enough stability to support the sauna." It does not name a base type; Topture suggests a concrete pad, a compacted paver base or a reinforced deck. The kit supplies two 51.2" foundation beams that sit under the shell, and the manual's first assembly step places them on a flat, level surface. Topture's advice for the CL3G is a prepared base that covers its full 53.2" × 51.2" footprint.
  2. Check drainage at the site. The manual warns against constant water exposure to the wooden components.
  3. Choose the heater package and have the electrician review its circuit requirements before delivery day.
  4. Plan how the crated components move from the curb to the build site — see delivery below.

Tools you supply

SaunaLife's manual lists the tools for the CL3G build: measuring tape, marker pen, circular saw, water level, hammer, drill, crescent wrench, utility knife, rubber mallet, screwdriver — and "extra hands". Treating the wooden parts with a preservative after assembly is recommended.

The carrier will reach out to book the appointment once the shipment arrives at their local terminal, and someone needs to be there to inspect and sign for it. The sauna arrives protected on a wooden pallet, sometimes encased in wood.

Inspect and photograph the shipment before you start assembly. SaunaLife's warranty does not cover damage — transport damage included — that would have been detectable by visual inspection before installation, so documenting it at delivery is what keeps both the freight claim and the warranty open.

Superior Outdoor Protection


The CL3G's shell is thermally modified Thermo-Spruce — 1.65-inch solid staves on the side walls and a 1.1-inch board wall at the back. Thermal modification heats the wood at high temperature in a low-oxygen kiln, which permanently changes its cell structure so it absorbs less moisture and resists decay and insects outdoors, with no chemical preservative used in the process. Handcrafted in Northern Europe, and finished with an asphalt shingle roof over underlay felt rather than a temporary cover.

Thermally modified wood is still wood: SaunaLife asks owners to treat every wooden part with a preservative at assembly and at least once a year afterwards, and notes that boards may crack or warp slightly with the temperature and humidity swings of sauna use.

I'll be honest, I was nervous about the assembly. I'm not a handy person. But the modular design is genuinely well thought out. My brother and I built the whole thing in a Weekend. The electrician came Monday morning, had the 240V wired in about 45 minutes, and we did our first session that same evening. Six months in, we use it 4–5 times a week. Through a Minnesota winter. The thermo-spruce wood hasn't moved a millimeter. No warping, no cracking, nothing. It looks exactly like the day we built it.

The sauna arrives on a wooden pallet, sometimes encased in wood. What warranty does the SaunaLife CL3G come with?
SaunaLife's Limited Warranty covers its saunas against defects in workmanship under normal conditions of use and service for five years from delivery in residential applications, and it runs to the original retail purchaser who bought from an authorized reseller. Topture is an authorized SaunaLife retailer. The warranty is limited to making good any factory-assembled component SaunaLife judges defective in workmanship. It does not cover normal material wear, user damage, natural weathering of the lumber, the natural characteristics of wood such as grain, knots and tone variation, shrinkage and expansion from temperature and humidity, or labour for removal and reinstallation. Sauna heaters and added components are not covered by it; each heater carries its own manufacturer warranty. Damage that would have been detectable by visual inspection before installation, including transport damage, is also excluded, which is why the shipment should be inspected and photographed at delivery.

How do you maintain the SaunaLife CL3G?
The SaunaLife CL3G needs a supervised two-hour first heating before normal use, with the room well ventilated, and new heater stones washed before they are placed. Follow the first-heating instructions supplied with both the sauna and the heater, and never run the heater above its maker's maximum temperature, which SaunaLife's manual also rules out; contact Topture if the two sets of instructions differ. After the first heating, apply a wood preservative to the exterior at least once a year, more often in harsh exposure. Can the SaunaLife CL3G stay outside all year?
Yes. The SaunaLife CL3G is an outdoor sauna: the shell is thermally modified Thermo-Spruce, which is heat-treated rather than chemically treated so it absorbs less moisture and resists decay and insects better than untreated softwood, and the roof is asphalt shingle over underlay felt with drip rails rather than a temporary cover. It is not maintenance-free. SaunaLife requires a wood preservative at assembly and at least once a year afterwards, and its manual notes that wood may crack or warp slightly with temperature and humidity swings and that steam-exposed areas darken over time, all of which it describes as normal for the material.

SaunaLife's CL3G manual names the ones that are normal: the wood may crack or warp slightly as temperature and humidity change, boards exposed to steam can darken, and thermally modified wood keeps a smell that fades but never fully disappears; washing untreated thermal wood with water makes it stronger. The avoidable ones come from care and setup: running the heater above its maker's maximum temperature, pressure-washing the wood, skipping the yearly exterior wood treatment, and a foundation that isn't level, which SaunaLife says the door needs to work properly. How does the SaunaLife CL3G compare with a barrel sauna?
The difference is the shape of the room. The SaunaLife CL3G is a cube with flat walls and a full-height glass front, so its 75.4-inch interior height holds across the full 49.6-inch width, and the two-tier bench and backrest sit against a straight back wall. A barrel sauna is a horizontal cylinder, so headroom is greatest along the centerline and falls toward the curved sides where the benches sit. Two exceptions: SaunaLife and ThermaSol products carry a freight charge at any order value, and sauna stones ordered without a heater ship at $60 per box because of their weight.

What happens after I place my order?

For freight deliveries, the carrier will call or text you to schedule an appointment once the shipment reaches their local terminal. Someone needs to be there to inspect the shipment and sign for it. Smaller parcels arrive by UPS or FedEx without an appointment.
