What is the Harvia WP500 Cauldron?

The Harvia WP500 Cauldron is a stand-alone, wood-fired water heater that holds 50 liters (13.2 gal) of water in a removable stainless-steel inner cauldron with a lid. It has its own fire chamber, door and ash box, stands on the floor on adjustable legs, and connects to a T600 chimney through a 4.5" (115 mm) opening at the rear. It is not a sauna heater: it heats water for washing, in a sauna or a cottage.

How much room does the Harvia WP500 Cauldron need?

The Harvia WP500 Cauldron holds 50 liters (13.2 gal). Harvia's manual says it needs at least 39.4" (1,000 mm) above it to the ceiling and at least 10.8 sq ft (1 m²) of floor space in front of it for use and maintenance. It does not heat the sauna room; a sauna needs its own heater.

The Harvia WP500 Cauldron stands on a floor strong enough to carry it full of water, on adjustable legs, inside the safety distances below, and connects to a T600 chimney at the rear. Harvia's installation manual, under Documents, gives the step-by-step installation and the chimney connection.

Does the Harvia WP500 Cauldron need floor protection?

It depends on the floor under the Harvia WP500 Cauldron. Harvia's manual says a tile floor or a floor made of combustible material must be protected with Harvia's WX018 protective bedding or similar heat-radiation protection, and a combustible floor also needs spark protection in front. The bedding is not included.

The Harvia WP500 can stand beside a wood-burning stove, Harvia's manual says, but if the stove is closer than 9.8 in (250 mm), a non-combustible protective sheath must separate them to shield the cauldron from the stove's direct heat radiation. With the sheath in place, the stove and the cauldron can be as close as 2.4 in (60 mm) apart. The ceiling, wall and bench distances still apply to both.
How do you use the Harvia WP500 safely?
The Harvia WP500 must never be heated empty, Harvia's manual says: fill the inner cauldron first, a little short of the brim to avoid boiling over, and keep it as full as possible while the cauldron is hot, because the inner cauldron is damaged if it runs dry. Avoid boiling the water, since it can splash from under the lid, and warn children about the hot water. Never use the cauldron without its fire chamber, and empty the ash box regularly.
How do you maintain the Harvia WP500, and what problems can happen?
The Harvia WP500 needs its ash box emptied regularly, its chimney swept, and its inner cauldron emptied if it will not be used for a long time or the water may freeze, because expanding ice can break it. Soot on the inner cauldron slows heating, so lift it out to clean it; remove rust spots with 400-grit or rougher wet sandpaper, never steel wool. Water beading under a cold-filled cauldron is condensation, not a leak. Smoke in the room points to a leaking flue joint, a cold flue, an extractor fan or a full ash box.

Do you provide financing?

How long will it take for my items to arrive?

If your order is in stock, most orders ship within 2–7 business days of purchase. Transit time then depends on the distance from the warehouse and, for freight, on booking a delivery appointment.
