The SunRay Aston (model 200TN) is a 1–2 person indoor traditional sauna built from Canadian cedar, with a tempered glass door beside a fixed glass panel and a 4.5 kW Harvia electric heater with stones included. It measures 54" W × 36" D × 80" H outside and 50" W × 32" D × 72" H inside. It is a wet/dry sauna: water ladled onto the heater stones raises the humidity, and SunRay supplies a wooden bucket and ladle for that. SunRay lists the Aston at 335 lbs, and it ships by LTL freight as a kit for assembly indoors.
The Aston is the 1–2 person model in SunRay's TN series of cedar indoor saunas, which are all 80" tall. The 3-person SunRay Hampton is 70" × 47", with two-tier seating and the same 4.5 kW heater, and the 4-person SunRay Charleston is 71" × 63", with a 6 kW heater. For other sizes and brands, see our indoor traditional saunas.
How the SunRay Aston is built
SunRay builds the Aston for indoor use, with the heater, its wooden frame, the light and the accessories part of the kit.
- Canadian cedar cabin: the walls join with built-in buckles, and the roof panel sits on top.
- 4.5 kW Harvia electric heater: supplied with stones and set in a wooden frame. SunRay does not name the Harvia model.
- Heat: SunRay says the Aston's Harvia heater reaches up to 180°F. Set the temperature on the thermostat; once the room reaches it, the heater switches off and on to hold it, according to SunRay's manual.
- Side bench: a single bench along one side, with a backrest.
- Glass front: a tempered glass door with a vertical handle, beside a fixed glass panel.
- Ceiling vent: SunRay's manual says the vent and the door can be opened at any time for fresh air.
- Lighting: an interior dome light.
- Accessories: a thermo-hygrometer, a sand timer, and a wooden bucket and ladle.

Can you assemble the SunRay Aston yourself?
The cabin, yes; the 240 V connection, no. SunRay's TN manual is written for at least two adults, and SunRay names a Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit as the only tool. SunRay estimates about two hours for the build. The electrical connection is work for a licensed electrician.
The manual builds the Aston in this order: the floor panel on a flat, hard, level surface, the back wall, the two side walls (joined to the back wall with built-in buckles), the front wall and the roof, then the door handle. The heater's wooden frame goes together next, and the heater's cable is fed out through a hole in the side wall. The bench and backrest follow. Last, the hygrometer, sand timer and dome light are screwed in place, with the light's wire run through the ceiling and connected at the heater.
Before the sauna arrives
- Choose the room. The Aston is for indoor use only and needs a sturdy, level surface; see "Where can the SunRay Aston be installed?" below.
- Have a licensed electrician run a dedicated 240 V, 30 A circuit to that spot and confirm how the sauna will be connected.
- Plan how the boxed panels will get from the curb to the room. See Shipping below.
Tools you supply
A Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips bit, and a second pair of hands.
What electrical service does the SunRay Aston need?
A dedicated 240 V circuit rated for 30 A, the same kind of circuit an electric clothes dryer uses; SunRay lists it as 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz. The heater draws 4,500 W, and nothing else can share the circuit. If your electrical panel has no room for another 240 V breaker, your electrician may need to upgrade it before delivery.
SunRay does not say whether the Aston ships with a plug or is meant to be hard-wired, so the connection is for a licensed electrician to make and confirm. Inside the cabin there is no other wiring to arrange: during assembly the heater's cable is fed out through a hole in the side wall, and the dome light's wire runs through the ceiling and connects at the heater, so the only site wiring is the supply circuit. SunRay's manual refers to the Harvia heater manual that comes with the sauna for the exact voltage and amperage; give both manuals to your electrician, and contact us before you order if you want us to confirm the requirements with you.
Where can the SunRay Aston be installed?
Indoors only. SunRay sells the Aston as an indoor sauna, and SunRay's warranty certificate states that indoor saunas are for indoor use only. SunRay's TN manual asks for a sturdy, level surface, says the sauna should never sit directly on the ground, and calls for a floor separator or moisture barrier where the floor is damp. It also says not to store flammable objects or chemicals near the sauna.
The room needs space for the 54" × 36" cabin and its 80" height, and the dedicated 240 V circuit close by. SunRay publishes no wall or ceiling clearances, so if the space is tight, contact us with the room's dimensions before you order.
Looking after the cedar
SunRay's manual says to dry off before going in, because excess water stains or warps the wood, and to lay a towel on the bench and floor during a session. SunRay's warranty treats surface cracks and minor blemishes in the wood as normal rather than defects.
How is the SunRay Aston delivered?
The SunRay Aston ships by LTL freight, with its panels boxed and strapped to a wooden pallet, and SunRay lists its shipping weight at 335 lbs. Delivery is curbside with a lift gate, which lowers the shipment to the driveway; moving the boxes from there to the room where the sauna will stand is up to you, so plan the route before the truck arrives. SunRay says its boxes fit through any doorway 24" or wider.
| Freight type | LTL truck; boxed panels on a wooden pallet |
|---|---|
| Delivery point | Curbside, lowered to the driveway by lift gate |
| Shipping weight | 335 lbs (SunRay) |
| Shipping cost | Free within the contiguous US |

The carrier will reach out to book the delivery appointment once the shipment reaches their local terminal.
Inspect the shipment before you sign. SunRay's warranty excludes freight damage caused by the carrier, so note any visible damage on the delivery receipt, photograph it, and contact us before you start assembly. SunRay's delivery policy asks for internal damage found after unpacking to be reported within 3 business days of delivery.
SunRay's assembly manual for its TN series covers the Aston, the Hampton and the Charleston: the placement and electrical requirements, the build sequence and tips for use, so your electrician can review it before delivery. The Harvia heater's own manual, with the heater's electrical data, ships with the sauna.

Electrical Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas require a dedicated 240V circuit in order to accommodate the high heat output of the heater. Please reference the product specification sheet to determine the specific requirements for your sauna.
Ventilation Requirements
Indoor traditional saunas are equipped with an air vent in the ceiling. This air vent is designed to help circulate heat throughout the sauna during the heat-up phase and to allow moisture to leave the sauna if you are adding humidity and using it as a steam sauna. The sauna cabin air vent also allows you to lower the sauna temperature without opening the door if the temperature inside the sauna becomes too hot.
Maximum Temperature
SunRay indoor traditional saunas have a maximum operating temperature of 170 degrees Fahrenheit. The normal operating range is 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Traditional Sauna Shipping
All traditional saunas are shipped via truck freight with curbside and lift-gate delivery service unless otherwise specified. SunRay traditional saunas and steam saunas are shipped on a wooden pallet with removable bracing to protect the sauna boxes. Please contact us if you have special requirements for delivery. The trucking company will call you to schedule a delivery appointment.
Sauna Warranty
SunRay home saunas carry a 7-year structural warranty and 1-year parts warranty. All SunRay sauna parts, including electronic parts and the electric heater, are guaranteed for 1 year against defects.
Electrical Connection
Indoor traditional saunas for the home come with a power cord attached to the heater. The power cord does not have a plug. It is designed to be hard-wired into a junction box or you can put a plug on the end of the power cord. Please note that the power requirements differ by sauna model. Consult your traditional sauna user manual for the specific power requirements.
Assembly and Installation
An indoor traditional sauna is easily assembled by two adults. The typical assembly time is 1 hour. No special tools are required for the sauna to be assembled.
Cleaning Your Home Sauna
Your home sauna should be cleaned a minimum of every 3-4 months or more frequently depending on usage. To clean the interior of your home sauna, use a mixture of baking soda and water (3 teaspoons baking soda to 1 gallon of warm water). Using a clean towel, wipe down the interior of the sauna, focusing on where sweat accumulates. Let the area dry with the sauna door open. Use a standard ammonia-based glass cleaner to clean the sauna doors and windows.
Traditional Sauna Origin
SunRay traditional sauna cabins are constructed from Hemlock or Cedar wood imported from Canada. SunRay's manufacturing facility is in China and its distribution facility is in the United States. Warranty claims are handled by SunRay Saunas, based in Richmond, VA, and Topture helps you coordinate them.
Sauna Specification Sheets
Each SunRay sauna has a specification sheet with all the details of the kit, including the power requirements. Contact us if you would like a copy.
Placing an Indoor Sauna Outdoors
SunRay indoor traditional saunas are not rated for outdoor use. They have an open top that is not protected from the elements. If you place the indoor sauna outdoors, it must be covered and protected from the elements. Indoor saunas that are placed outdoors will not be covered under SunRay's sauna warranty.
Sauna Heating Time
The average heating time for traditional home saunas ranges between 30-45 minutes depending on the room temperature, size of the sauna, and the heater type.
Ceiling Clearance
You need at least 3-4 inches between the top of the home sauna and the ceiling. This allows the electrical components on the top of the sauna to receive the appropriate amount of airflow.
Sauna Stones
SunRay indoor traditional saunas come with heater stones that sit on top of the heater elements. The heater stones are used to help radiate heat throughout the sauna and can be used to create humidity inside the sauna. DO NOT pour excess water on the heater stones as it will cause damage to the heater. To create humidity in the sauna, simply drizzle a small amount of water over the stones once they are hot.
Sauna Heater Placement
All indoor traditional saunas are equipped with either a wall mounting bracket or cradle for the heater to sit in. DO NOT place the sauna heater directly on the floor as it could become a fire hazard. The sauna must be elevated off the floor to create airflow through the heating elements.
Sauna Lighting
All indoor traditional saunas come with ambient dome lighting. Saunas with dome lighting can be connected to the heater so that the light turns off when the heater turns off. Alternatively, you can wire the lighting separately on its own switch. Consult your sauna heating wiring guide for instructions on how to wire your sauna light into the heater.
