A chimney kit is the one component you can't skip on a wood-burning sauna. It vents smoke and combustion gases safely out of your sauna while maintaining proper draft for efficient burning. Every kit we carry is a complete, brand-matched system designed specifically for sauna stoves — not a collection of generic fireplace parts you'd have to piece together from a hardware store.
We stock chimney kits from two brands: Harvia and HUUM. Both use stainless steel construction with T600-rated insulation in the double-wall sections, and both include everything from the ceiling penetration to the rain cap on top. The main decision comes down to which stove you're running and how your sauna is built.
Most sauna chimney installations go straight up through the roof. It's the most efficient path — hot exhaust rises naturally, draft is strong, and you get the best burn performance from your stove. The Harvia WHP1500 chimney kit and HUUM Barrel chimney kit are both designed for this type of vertical installation. Harvia's kit comes in stainless steel or black powder-coated finishes to match your stove.
Through-wall installations work when a vertical roof exit isn't practical — maybe your sauna is under a covered patio, or the roof structure makes a penetration difficult. The HUUM Thru-Wall chimney kit routes the flue horizontally through the wall and then vertically up the exterior. HUUM also offers a backside connection kit for stoves with a rear flue outlet. Through-wall runs are slightly less efficient than vertical — the horizontal section creates more resistance — but they're a solid option when the layout demands it.
Compatibility is straightforward. Harvia chimney kits fit Harvia wood-burning stoves. HUUM kits fit HUUM stoves. The flue diameters, connection points, and mounting hardware are engineered as a system. Mixing brands isn't recommended — you'll run into fitment issues and void your warranty.
If your sauna has a taller-than-standard roof or you need extra height above the roofline for code compliance, both brands offer chimney extension pipes. Harvia's extensions come in 500mm and 1000mm lengths, available in stainless or black steel. HUUM offers single-wall and double-wall extension pipes in multiple lengths.
For angled ceilings — common in A-frame saunas and some barrel designs — HUUM's Thru-Angled Ceiling kit handles pitches that a standard flat-roof kit can't accommodate. Barrel sauna owners with curved rooflines should look at the HUUM Barrel kit, which is specifically designed for that geometry.
Every chimney kit we sell is a complete package. You won't need to source individual components separately. A typical kit includes: insulated double-wall chimney pipe, a single-wall connector pipe for inside the sauna, a ceiling penetration plate, roof flashing sized for common pitches, a storm collar, and a rain cap. Harvia kits also include a utility box and rubber rain flange.
Beyond the chimney itself, you may want to browse related sauna heater accessories — heat shields and floor protection are required for most wood-burning installations, and heater guard rails add a layer of safety in tight spaces. If you're still choosing a stove, our wood-burning sauna heaters page has the full lineup, and our wood-burning heater packages bundle the stove, chimney, stones, and accessories together at the same price as buying individually.
Chimney installation on a sauna is a job where precision matters. Clearances to combustible materials must meet local building codes, roof penetrations need to be watertight, and every joint has to be secured properly. We strongly recommend hiring a qualified professional — especially for the roof penetration and flashing work. Each kit ships with detailed installation instructions, and our team is available by phone if you or your installer have questions during the process.
