A hybrid sauna puts full-spectrum infrared panels and a traditional electric heater inside the same cabin. You can run infrared heat for a lower-temperature session that warms your body directly, or fire up the traditional heater for high heat and steam with water on the stones. The two systems operate independently, so you choose the mode that fits how you feel that day.
Finnmark's Trinity line takes this a step further by adding red light therapy panels to the mix. That gives you three distinct modalities in a single unit: infrared, traditional, and red light. Most competing hybrid saunas on the market skip the red light component entirely.
The Finnmark FD-4 Trinity seats two comfortably and fits a 48" x 48" footprint, making it one of the more space-efficient hybrid options available. It includes two-tier seating, Bluetooth audio, and the same full-spectrum infrared panels used across the entire Finnmark line. If you're working with a spare bedroom, basement corner, or home gym, this is where most people start. Browse the full two-person hybrid sauna selection to see specs.
The Finnmark FD-5 Trinity XL opens up to 75" x 64" and seats three to four. The larger footprint means more panel coverage and room for two people to stretch out on separate bench levels. Couples who sauna together regularly or households with different heat preferences tend to gravitate here. You can compare all four-person hybrid saunas or narrow it to three-person hybrid models.
The FD-4 and FD-5 give you independent controls for each heat source. Run infrared alone at 120–150°F for a gentler session that heats up in 10–20 minutes, or switch to the traditional heater for a full 150–185°F Finnish-style experience with löyly (steam from water on the stones). The infrared panels are low-EMF and full-spectrum, covering near, mid, and far wavelengths. If you've been weighing traditional saunas against infrared and can't decide, a hybrid removes the trade-off entirely.
One thing to note: the infrared panels and the traditional heater aren't designed to run simultaneously at full power. You pick one mode or the other for each session. This is standard across all hybrid sauna designs, not a limitation specific to Finnmark.
Finnmark Designs is the only brand in our hybrid lineup, and they're the ones who built the Trinity concept from the ground up. Every Trinity cabin uses Thermo-Aspen, a thermally modified hardwood that handles repeated heat cycling without warping, cracking, or off-gassing. It's a different approach than the hemlock or cedar you'll find in most competitors' hybrid cabins.
The FD-series also includes Finnmark's pure infrared models (FD-1 through FD-3) if you decide traditional heat isn't necessary. But if you want the flexibility of both systems plus red light, the Trinity models are where Finnmark stands apart from every other brand in this category. You can browse all of Finnmark's lineup alongside other brands in our full home sauna collection.
Both Trinity models ship as kits with pre-cut Thermo-Aspen panels. Two people can assemble the cabin in a couple of hours with basic hand tools. The infrared panels and wiring harness are pre-installed in the wall sections, so you're mostly connecting panels and securing bolts.
Because these saunas include a traditional heater, you'll need a dedicated 240V circuit. A licensed electrician should handle the hookup. Indoor placement is most common since the Thermo-Aspen construction isn't rated for direct outdoor exposure to the elements. Our electrical requirements guide breaks down what your electrician will need to know. If you're specifically looking for indoor hybrid sauna options, both Trinity models qualify.
You can also pair these cabins with a compatible sauna heater from our electric sauna heater collection if you ever want to swap or upgrade the traditional heating component. Finnmark's product pages list verified heater pairings.
