The Hive Mini takes the freestanding cylindrical cage that made the full Hive famous and shrinks it to a size that fits a normal home sauna — without giving up the thing that makes a HUUM heater special. It carries 330 lbs of stone, which is the heaviest stone load in its power class. Most heaters in the 6–10.5kW range hold a fraction of that. The Mini's whole pitch is that you get big-heater steam quality in a mid-size room.
It stands on the sauna floor at 29.5" tall by 18.1" wide by 18.1" deep — a slimmer column than the full Hive. Like every HUUM electric heater, the elements sit buried deep in the stone, so the heat you feel is radiated off thermal mass rather than blown past exposed coils. If you've been working through the HUUM electric heater range and you want the cylindrical Hive aesthetic but your room doesn't justify 595 lbs of stone, the Hive Mini is the answer.
The Hive Mini spans roughly 176 to 706 cubic feet across three wattages. The 6kW suits compact 2–3 person home saunas. The 9kW is the workhorse for typical 3–4 person indoor builds and many outdoor cabins. The 10.5kW handles the largest rooms the Mini is rated for — 4–5 person cabins pushing toward 700 cu ft. When you're on the line between two sizes, go up. Glass doors, tile, and cold exterior walls reduce a heater's effective capacity, and an undersized heater is one that never quite reaches temperature.
Every Hive Mini runs on 240V single-phase. The 6kW pulls 25 amps and needs a 30A breaker on 10 AWG wire. The 9kW pulls 37.5 amps and needs a 40A breaker on 8 AWG. The 10.5kW pulls 43.75 amps and needs a 50A breaker on 8 AWG. Each heater needs its own dedicated circuit — none of these can share a breaker — and the install has to be done by a licensed electrician. Our sauna electrical rough-in guide walks through what to confirm before the electrician shows up. Electrical requirements vary by local code, so always have a licensed electrician verify your specific install.
The Hive Mini will not run without a HUUM UKU controller, sold separately. Good news on the Mini: because it stays at or below 10.5kW, you do not need the UKU Extension Box that the full Hive's 15kW and 18kW models require. Any UKU controller works directly with the Mini.
Browse the full lineup in our UKU controller collection. UKU Local is a wired wall panel with no WiFi, for buyers who don't want their sauna online. UKU WiFi adds the HUUM mobile app — preheat from your phone on the drive home and schedule recurring sessions. UKU Glass and UKU Mirror are the WiFi version in premium glass or mirror finishes for a minimalist wall. If app control matters to you, the WiFi-controllable heaters collection shows the rest of our app-enabled options. For the Hive Mini specifically, any UKU pairs without an Extension Box.
Thermal mass is what separates a great sauna heater from an average one, and 330 lbs is a lot of mass for a heater this size. The practical payoff is recovery time: throw water on a fully loaded Hive Mini and the room fills with humid löyly without the temperature crashing, because the stones hold so much reserve heat. You can pour again almost immediately. A lighter heater in the same room would hiss, dump its heat, and leave you waiting between pours.
Use 2"–4" rounded olivine stones and fill the cage fully, packing around the elements so airflow stays even. Source the right stone from our sauna rocks collection. Don't run the Mini with a half-empty basket — you lose the steam quality the heater is built for and stress the elements.
The Hive Mini sits in the middle of HUUM's floor-standing range, so the comparison is mostly about stone mass and room size. The full HUUM Hive steps up to 595 lbs of stone and 12–18kW for large and light-commercial rooms over 700 cu ft — more than most homes need. The HUUM Cliff is the angular freestanding pillar with 165–202 lbs of stone — a sculptural alternative with slightly less mass than the Mini for similar room sizes. The HUUM Drop is the wall-mounted teardrop at 121 lbs, for saunas where floor space is tight. And the HUUM Steel is the budget entry in a rectangular shell.
Choose the Hive Mini when you want the cylindrical Hive look and outsized thermal mass in a mid-size 2–5 person room. If your room is bigger than 700 cu ft or commercial, step up to the full Hive. If you want a more sculptural shape or want to spend a little less on stone mass, look at the Cliff. The Hive Mini also lives in our 9kW heater collection if you're cross-shopping that wattage.
The Hive Mini reaches a 230°F surface — the highest max temp in the category — so a guard rail keeping benches and bodies clear of the cage isn't optional where seating sits close. Stones are mandatory before the heater can be powered on. Sourcing parts à la carte, plan on heater + UKU controller + stones as the minimum order. If you'd rather not piece it together, our HUUM electric heater packages bundle the heater, your choice of UKU controller, and stones at a package price.
HUUM's warranty runs 3 years on the heater body and UKU controller for residential use, valid only through authorized dealers like Topture. Grey-market units from Amazon and eBay resellers frequently aren't covered by HUUM even when the product looks identical — confirm the dealer before you order. We're an authorized HUUM dealer, ship every Hive Mini free, and our team is available if you hit a question during install.
