The Finnmark FD-2 is a 2-person indoor full-spectrum infrared sauna with a clear A-grade Canadian Western Red Cedar interior and a Thermo-Aspen exterior. It measures 48" W × 43.5" D × 78.3" H outside and 44.3" W × 39.8" D × 70.5" H inside, with one 44.3"-wide bench. Four Spectrum Plus™ heaters and two Spectrum Carbon panels bring the room to its 170°F maximum in 55–60 minutes, according to Finnmark's manual, and the sauna runs on 120 V from a dedicated 15 A outlet.
Finnmark describes the FD-2, its Hybrid 2.0 model, as its best-selling infrared sauna. It sits between the one-person FD-1 and the larger FD-3 in Finnmark's full-spectrum range, and it is the larger of the two that run on 120 V; the FD-3 needs a 240 V circuit.
How the Finnmark FD-2 heats
The FD-2 combines three kinds of emitter, which is what Finnmark means by full spectrum:
- Four Spectrum Plus™ heaters: Incoloy-sheathed infrared elements, two on the back wall, one on the front wall and one under the bench. Finnmark warrants them for life.
- Two Spectrum Carbon heaters: carbon infrared panels, one on each side wall.
- Spectrum LED ceiling lights: multi-color LED lights that Finnmark describes as near-infrared, with a red setting for red light therapy.
- High Emissivity & Low EMF: Its heaters are not only powerful but also highly efficient at radiating infrared heat. They've also been rigorously tested to ensure ultra-low EMF levels, so you can relax with total peace of mind.
The FD-2 is rated at 1,750 W. Finnmark's manual allows about 15–20 minutes for the sauna to warm to a comfortable temperature and 55–60 minutes to reach the 170°F maximum, and notes that the maximum may not be reached in every setting, depending on the room temperature, air flow and where the sauna is placed.
Does the Finnmark FD-2 have red light therapy?
Yes. The FD-2's Spectrum LED ceiling lights include a red setting, and Finnmark's manual says red light therapy can be used during a sauna session by selecting the "red" button on the control panel. The same lights switch to white, orange, blue, yellow, purple, green, cyan or magenta, or scroll through the colors. The FD-2 does not have the separate red light panel fitted to Finnmark's Trinity FD-4 and FD-5.
Controls, sound and ventilation
- Controller 2.0: an LCD touchscreen control panel that sets the temperature and session time and runs the lights, fan and audio.
- Wi-Fi app: the FD-2 connects to the Smart Life app, which switches the sauna on, sets the target temperature and session time, and schedules sessions in advance.
- Bluetooth audio: a pair of 6" speakers plays from a paired device.
- Ventilation: a ceiling fan switched from the control panel, and a ceiling vent that can be opened at any time for fresh air.
Materials and construction
- Interior: clear A-grade Canadian Western Red Cedar.
- Exterior: Thermo-Aspen, which Finnmark sells as Thermal Plus™ and treats with heat and steam rather than chemicals. Finnmark says the treatment makes the wood less prone to warping, cracking and cupping.
- Walls: tongue-and-groove panels with insulated walls, which Finnmark describes as double-walled with wool insulation.
- Door: tempered glass, 0.31" thick.
Cedar is a natural material, and Finnmark's manual notes that variations in color and grain, knots and fine cracks are part of the wood's character, not defects.
What comes with the Finnmark FD-2?
The Finnmark FD-2 ships as a complete kit: the six wall, floor and ceiling panels, with the infrared heaters already built into the walls and the bench, the tempered glass door in its front panel, the bench and backrest, the touchscreen control panel, lighting, speakers and power supply, and the hardware and manual to assemble it. No heater or controller has to be bought separately. What the FD-2 does need is a dedicated 120 V, 15 A outlet within reach of its 9-foot power cord.

What outlet does the Finnmark FD-2 need?
The Finnmark FD-2 needs a dedicated 15 A, 120 V circuit with a standard NEMA 5-15 outlet, and Finnmark's manual asks that no other devices share the circuit. The sauna plugs in rather than being hard-wired, and it does not need a 240 V circuit. Its power supply sits at the top front of the cabin and the cord is about 9 feet long, so the outlet has to be within that reach; the manual rules out extension cords.
If there is no dedicated 15 A outlet where the sauna will stand, an electrician adds one. Finnmark's manual says all wiring should be performed by a licensed electrician following local codes, the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) in the US and the Canadian Electrical Code in Canada. It also calls for a grounded three-wire outlet and strongly recommends a GFCI device in any location that could get wet.
Where can the Finnmark FD-2 be installed?
The FD-2 is a freestanding indoor sauna. Finnmark's manual says it must not be built into any structure and needs a solid surface in a dry area, with at least 3" of clearance above it and on every side so the power cord stays accessible. The manual suggests a basement, attic, garage, playroom, spare bedroom or new extension. Allow 23.9" in front of the sauna for the door to swing open, and a ceiling at least 81.3" high: the 78.3" cabin plus the 3" clearance.
Using the FD-2 outdoors
The FD-2 is designed for indoor use, and Finnmark allows it outdoors only on its conditions. It must be covered with the Finnmark FD2 outdoor cover; placing it outside without a cover voids the warranty. It must also stand under an awning or overhang so rain does not fall directly on the roof, on sturdy, dry, level ground rather than grass, gravel or dirt, and never on a surface that gets wet from rain or snow. Finnmark notes that the cover protects against limited weather exposure but not extreme conditions, that its snap buttons should stay clipped and its zippers closed when the sauna is not in use, and that warm-up times vary with the outdoor temperature. Outdoors, Finnmark's warranty on the cabin is 5 years instead of 10.
How is the Finnmark FD-2 assembled?
The FD-2 arrives as prefabricated panels that screw together in seven steps, and Finnmark lists only a screwdriver and a level as tools. The floor panel goes down first on its feet, leveled in the sauna's final position, followed by the back and side panels, the bench and its heater, the front panel and the roof panel, which takes two people to lift. The heater and power-supply cables are then connected, the door handle fitted and the power cord plugged in. Finnmark's manual requires at least two able people and states that professional installation is required.
Before the first session, Finnmark recommends wiping the interior with a damp cloth and running the empty sauna at maximum temperature for an hour, a few times, to burn off factory dust.
How is the Finnmark FD-2 delivered?
The Finnmark FD-2 ships free to the contiguous US by LTL freight, as a crate on a wooden pallet. Delivery is by appointment and curbside: the driver lowers the shipment to ground level and is not responsible for moving it further, so plan how two people will carry the panels from the curb to the room where the sauna will stand. The carrier will reach out to book the delivery appointment.
| Freight type | LTL truck, crated on a wooden pallet |
|---|---|
| Delivery | Curbside, by appointment, lowered to ground level |
| Crate size | 78" L × 36" W × 50" H |

Why Finnmark?
Finnmark Designs builds infrared saunas with Spectrum Plus™ heaters, in a cedar interior with a Thermo-Aspen exterior. The FD-1, FD-2 and FD-3 are full-spectrum models; the Trinity FD-4 and FD-5 add a Harvia traditional heater and a red light panel.
- Up to 170°F on infrared. Finnmark's manuals give a 170°F infrared maximum for every model, reached in about 55–60 minutes. The Trinity models reach up to 194°F in traditional mode, with their Harvia heater.
- Spectrum Plus™ heaters. Incoloy-sheathed Spectrum Plus™ elements heat every model. The FD-1, FD-2 and FD-3 add Spectrum Carbon panels and Spectrum LED ceiling lights with a red setting.
- Ultra-Low EMF Radiation (All 4 Types). You're using a sauna for your health, so it should be a clean experience. Finnmark saunas feature low-emitting heaters and upgraded, shielded electrical components to minimize all four types of radiation (EMF, ELF, EMI, and RF) for the lowest possible exposure.
- Cedar inside, Thermo-Aspen outside. Clear A-grade Canadian Western Red Cedar lines the interior. The exterior is Thermo-Aspen, which Finnmark treats with heat and steam rather than chemicals and sells as Thermal Plus™.
- Warranty. Finnmark's warranty sheet covers the cabin and its controls and power supply for 10 years in indoor residential use (5 years outdoors), the Spectrum Plus™ heaters for life, and the carbon heaters and LED lighting for 10 years.
- ETL listed. The FD-1, FD-2, FD-3 and FD-4 are ETL listed by Intertek to UL 875.
